Job Title: 2nd Shift Injection Molding Process Engineer
Department: Manufacturing
Reports to: Plant Director and Production Manager
Summary/Objective
H.A. Automotive Systems is seeking to hire an Injection Molding Process Engineer who is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of injection molding processes to ensure the production of high-quality plastic parts. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving existing processes, as well as developing new processes to meet production goals efficiently and cost-effectively.
Essential Duties include but not limited to:
· Process Design & Optimization:
- Develop, implement, and optimize injection molding processes for new and existing products.
- Work closely with design and production teams to create mold designs and ensure they are suitable for injection molding processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to molding cycles, quality, and productivity.
- Utilize simulation software to predict process behavior and validate designs.
· Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and resolve process problems (e.g., molding defects, cycle time issues, material flow) through root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure machines and molds are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce scrap, improve cycle times, and increase overall efficiency.
· Quality Control:
- Monitor the quality of molded parts and ensure they meet specifications and standards.
- Perform regular inspections and audits to ensure that the production process adheres to safety and quality guidelines.
- Work with quality control teams to define acceptable tolerances, testing methods, and corrective actions for any quality issues.
· Training & Support:
- Provide technical support to the production team during the molding process.
- Train operators and technicians on proper machine setup, tooling, and process parameters.
- Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the injection molding process.
· Materials and Equipment Management:
- Select appropriate materials and advise on material substitutions based on cost and performance.
- Work with suppliers to select high-quality resins and assist in material testing and qualification.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of materials to maintain their integrity.
· Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Collect and analyze process data to identify trends and make data-driven decisions.
- Maintain detailed records of process parameters, production reports, and performance data.
- Prepare reports on process improvements, cost savings, and productivity enhancements.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work with product design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transitions from prototype to production.
- Collaborate with R&D teams on the development of new products and materials.
Qualifications
· Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
· Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in injection molding process engineering or a related manufacturing field.
- Hands-on experience with injection molding machines, materials, and tooling.
- Proficiency with process optimization and troubleshooting in an injection molding environment.
· Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of injection molding machine operation, process parameters, and material properties.
- Familiarity with CAD software and simulation tools for mold flow analysis (e.g., Moldflow, AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), Six Sigma, or Lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP/MES systems.
· Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with robotic automation in molding processes.
- Certification in Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt) or Lean Manufacturing.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
