Position Overview
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for assisting in the extraction and refinement of cannabis, including all tasks associated with the production of CO2 oil and terpene infused distillate.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Chopping/milling plant material.
· Using ovens to decarboxylate plant material.
· Strictly adhere to SOPs for supercritical CO2 extraction, winterization, vacuum filtration, and wiped film distillation.
· Clean and maintain equipment and glassware.
· Maintaining a clean and organized workspace at all times.
· Understanding of workflow and attention to detail in large-scale production environments.
· Comfortably and confidently working with solvents and chemicals.
· Using deductive reasoning to identify problems and find creative solutions.
· Meticulously logging data for a variety of processes; using these data to make constructive inferences.
· Weighing, tracking, and processing raw plant material into CO2 oil and distillate following Happy Valley SOP’s.
· Tracking inventory with our Internal ERP tracking system, as well as the state required seed-to-sale (METRC) system as it moves through the process in different forms.
· Follow regulatory laws set forth by the commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Cannabis Control Commission.
· Sending out batch samples for testing.
· Collaborating with our cultivation and retail teams to exceed quality standards.
· Maintaining proper inventory levels of all products necessary for extraction products.
· Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, extraction tools, glassware, collection vessels etc.
· Ability to perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time.
Requirements:
· Ability to meet physical demands including reaching, bending, walking, standing and performing repetitive work.
· Comfortable working in adverse conditions, i.e. hot/ cold environments, high-intensity lighting, and intense workflow. This includes working with highly pressurized CO2 extraction equipment.
· Must be available to work occasional weekends and holidays.
· The schedule for this position is four 10-hour shifts:
- Sunday – Wednesday, 7am – 6pm.
- The initial training period will mirror the manager’s weekly schedule, Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm.
· Must comply with the MA. CCC hiring guidelines.
Qualifications/Experience:
- BS/BA or Associates degree in chemical engineering, life science, chemistry, biochemistry, and/or phytobiology (preferred).
- Plant Extraction: 2 years (preferred).
- Strong scientific background in fundamentals of extraction, filtration, distillation, and isolation.
- A thorough understanding of the fundamentals of cannabis extraction.
- Technical problem-solving skills in a production environment with chemical processing equipment, specifically Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) and post-processing techniques.
- Experience in the formulation and accurate dosing of various products is advantageous.
- Knowledge of cannabinoids, terpenes, and their medicinal benefits is preferred.
- Experience in a lab or manufacturing setting highly preferred.
- Passion for cannabis and cannabis extraction.
