What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Officer position at Hy-Line Cruises?
Summary:
Hy-Line Cruises provides high-speed ferry services to/from Hyannis and the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard seven days of the week, along with local fishing vessels and harbor tours in season. Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of passengers, company employees and their properties in a courteous and professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary daily duties of this security officer will consist of:
· Performing electronic log entries (Windows based PC operating system).
· Answering calls & responding to alarms.
· Timely reporting of incidents to a supervisor or Director of Security.
· Vessel ramp placement and removal.
· Crowd control & friendly customer assistance.
· Use & understanding of security related Apps such as Trello & Voxer.
· Baggage control & inspections.
· Surveillance and monitoring of suspicious activities and breaches of security.
· Handling and assisting the crews with the Hy-Line firearms policy.
· Vessel security / inspections (walk-throughs).
· Vessel security roundtrips for seasonal workers when determined by the Director of Security.
· Off season full time & year-round full time security Officers will perform daily roundtrips to Nantucket for the 5:30AM – 1:30AM Security Officer and the 1:30PM-9:30PM Officer. Times for these round trips will be determined by the Director of Security.
· Ticket scanning (off season).
· Assist Dock staff (off season).
· Between departures / Physical security check/inspection / Northend Dock.
Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certifications:
Possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
A valid Massachusetts License to Carry (L.T.C.) permit is preferred, but not required.
Obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (T.W.I.C.) card.
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum High School diploma with college course work preferred.
Prior law enforcement, military, criminal justice, security, or related employment preferred.
Solid employment record required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of people. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Prepare professionally written, concise, and accurate reports. Use of a Window’s based PC. Successfully pass a background check. Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance in a company issued uniform.
Must be able to safely perform the essential duties for the position, with or without, reasonable accommodation.
Typical Work Environments:
Primarily outdoors in a marine, harborside environment.
Be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Requires travel on vessels.
