What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer II position at Hy-Tek Intralogistics?
Job Purpose:
The Project Engineer II has responsibility for the engineering effort beginning at project turnover from sales through to implementation in the customer facility. A Project Engineer II will work with the project management and sales team to always ensure client satisfaction. The Project Engineer II may work as part of a team on larger projects or as lead engineer on smaller to medium size projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Demonstrated ability to lead small to medium size projects that may include providing direction to other engineers who are assisting on the larger projects.
• Provide some mentoring to newer, less experienced engineers. Work with Engineering Manager to improve group drawing standards, processes, and procedures to promote efficiency and a consistent product from engineering.
• Present a professional image to customers and vendors.
• Review all sales documents so that a full understanding of the deliverables is understood. Also confirm that all components needed to complete the project have been included by the sales team.
• Work with project management to ensure that engineering is aligned with scope and schedule of assigned deliverables.
• Learn and complete engineering calculations (horsepower, conveyor speed, air, point loads, etc.) for conveyor. Racking and structural designs will be handled by an outside professional engineer.
• Work with project controls group to provide them needed information and ensure that the mechanical design meets the controls methodology.
• Assist in purchase order requests for mechanical/structural components.
• Hold vendors accountable to scope deliverables.
• Responsible for project drawings and equipment lists (approval, permit, installation, fabrication, etc.).
• Review installation package with field install team prior to installation start to ensure scope of work is understood and that no additional information is required.
• Provide field installation assistance for questions that may arise during installation.
• Assist/Support internal customer service with maintenance manual materials and spare parts information from project vendors.
• Provide as-built drawings at the completion of all projects.
• Maintain project folders so that they are organized and clutter free.
• Develop the skills to lead small projects while gaining the skills required to grow the size of projects engineered.
• Capacity to handle multiple projects at one time while maintaining deliverables for all.
• Work with the PM/Site Manager on permitting.
• Ability to travel and complete site visits for surveying, punch listing, trouble shooting, etc.
• Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:
• Formal training in mechanical engineering or equivalent related experience required.
• 3 years’ experience in material handling industry or equivalent is preferred.
• Working knowledge of conveyor, racking, storage systems and advancing technologies.
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude necessary.
• Excellent problem solving, judgment making, and organizational skills.
• Well-developed verbal / interpersonal skills with strong organizational, problem solving and time management skills.
• Ability to complete several tasks simultaneously without error.
• Capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint) and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of installation and maintenance of systems preferred.
• Industry knowledge related to supply chain, logistics, material handling systems, and software such as WMS, WES, WCS, CCS, ERP, etc. is preferred.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
Working Conditions:
• Travel generally requires about 25% of your time but could be higher depending on project demands.
• Occasional weekend and night required as project deems necessary.
• Working in office, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities.
• Working in a stationary position for an extended period.
• Moving or traversing for an extended period.
• Occasional ascending and descending scaffolding and/or mezzanines.
• Operating computers for an extended period.
• Possible exposure to noise levels exceeding recommended DBA levels.
• Occasional movement and positioning of objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
