Job Overview
Provide day –to-day care to residents to maintain resident quality of life.
Essential Duties
1. Provide quality nursing care to residents while maintaining an environment which promotes resident rights, dignity, freedom of choice and their individuality as illustrated by the following:
a. Answer residents’ call lights promptly and ensure the call cord is within residents’ reach upon exiting the room.
b. Attend to the individual needs of residents which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinence care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, communication, or other needs in keeping with the individual’s care plan.
c. Complete CNA records daily, document 100% of care provided into charting software in keeping with company policies.
d. Encourage residents to attain their highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.
e. Become knowledgeable of the individualized care plan for residents and provide support to the resident according to the care plan. Provide pertinent information to the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information, such as changes in condition or behavior, based on observation of the residents’ needs and preferences.
f. Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them. Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
g. Fully understand all aspects of residents’ rights including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Responsible for promptly reporting to the charge nurse or administrative staff of incidents of abuse, neglect, misappropriation, or violation of residents’ rights.
h. Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; report environmental hazards to supervisor such as broken equipment, tripping hazards, etc.
i. Protect the personal belongings of each resident including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, memorabilia, etc. Promptly report missing items according to established policy and participate in efforts to locate missing items.
j. Provide care that maintains each resident’s skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears and other damage by changing incontinent residents; turning or repositioning immobile residents and applying moisturizers to fragile skin as directed by care plan.
k. Perform various tasks assigned by the supervisor including vital signs, resident weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, etc.
l. Lift, move, and transport residents according to care plan, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
m. Practice appropriate use of supplies and linen and follow established procedures for billable resident items.
n. Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
o. Support an atmosphere which promotes a homelike environment; for example, knocking prior to entering resident rooms, maintaining quiet in hallways and during shift changes, etc.
2. Provide prompt customer service to residents, families, visitors, co-workers etc. within given time frames and within established policy.
Other Duties
1. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.
2. Meet on-going requirements to maintain current Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
Physical Demands of the Job:
1. Frequent tasks involve walking throughout the shift. Distances typically less than 200 feet with occasional walking greater distance, walking is on even surfaces.
2. Occasional sitting during duties, the majority of which will be at the nurse’s station.
3. Occasional standing does not need to be static.
4. Occasional squatting and/or bending, necessary mostly during medication pass or residents’ assessment.
5. Lifting up to 10 lbs. frequently, 11 to 25 lbs. occasionally, 26 to 50 lbs. seldom and lifting greater than 50 lbs. is not required.
6. Repetitive movements require following proper body mechanics. Notify supervisor of any concerns. Fine repetitive motor skills will be used frequently; gross repetitive motor skills will be used occasionally.
7. Occasionally push/pull up to 25 pounds of force.
8. Occasional twisting, seldom climb or use stairs; never crawl.
9. Frequently reach from shoulder height to knees; seldom reach above shoulders or below knees.
Qualifications
Basic Qualification
Education/Training: A high school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a Washington state approved Nursing Assistant Certification course or other education which meets state certification requirements. Must hold current Nursing Assistant Certification in Washington State or have current Nurse Aide Registered with plans to obtain NAC within 4 months.
Skills: Moderate reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; strong people skills and communicative skills; ability to remain calm and courteous in stressful situations; auditory and visual skills; ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 50 pounds or less.
Experience: A minimum of three months prior nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

a. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plan and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
b. Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
c. Follow up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
d. Promotes customer service with residents, family members and guests.
e. Adheres to requirements for in-service training; attendance, uniform, department, and dress code policies, including personal hygiene, and completes other work duties as assigned
