Join us for this incredible opportunity to be part of our team as an Utility Engineer at Hyatt Regency Houston-Downtown located in Houston, TX.

The Utility Engineer - Central Plant Operator is responsible for the efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of central plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This includes low-pressure boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and HVAC systems. The role also involves scheduling and overseeing air handling units (AHUs) for meeting spaces, performing routine inspections and maintenance of life safety systems, and logging building utility consumption.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain central plant equipment, including low-pressure boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and associated pumps.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure efficient operation.
  • Schedule and adjust start / stop times for air handling units (AHUs) serving meeting spaces.
  • Conduct basic inspections and maintenance of life safety systems to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Log and monitor building utility consumption, identifying trends and potential efficiency improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to support facility operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and system adjustments.

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Boiler Operator License. 3rd, 2nd, or 1st grade license preferred.
  • Minimum of four years operator / maintenance experience performing PM's, troubleshooting and repairs in a commercial, industrial or institutional facility on chillers, pumps, air handlers, boilers, generators, etc.
  • Understanding of chilled and hot water systems
  • Understanding of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, (HVAC), operation to include theory of operation and controls
  • The ability to use test equipment including, but not limited to, multi-meters, temperature and pressure probes, and circuit tracers
  • Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems, three phase and single phase, up to 600 volts
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and diagrams
  • Ability to use technical manuals to diagnose and repair equipment
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Regular kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Occasional climbing of stairs, ladders, and ramps
  • Having to lift moderate weight, up to 50 lbs.
