The Director of Security is r esponsible for the overall operation of the Security Department including loss, prevention, investigation, fire safety, life safety, job safety, and staff management. Other duties as required.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develops and maintains effective security program.
- Review and updates all security procedures and policies.
- Investigates all guest, employee property loss and accident reports.
- Implement “plan of action” in case of life safety threats including, but not limited to fire, bomb, threats, active shooter, riots, etc.
- Manage the Personal Duress Alarm program
- Maintain all Emergency Response Plans
- Conduct quarterly security team training sessions
- Conduct safety training for all colleagues as directed by hotel senior management
- Inspects property on a regular basis for all safety hazards, energy conservation, etc.
- Liaison with federal, state and local officials to ensure compliance with security, fire and life safety regulations.
- Lead safety committee team to ensure colleagues are knowledgeable and aware.
- Purchases all security supplies and equipment.
- Handles all insurance: liability, brokers, guests, etc.
- Handles all correspondence and maintains employee files.
- Prepares weekly, monthly, yearly payroll and operating budget.
- Hires, trains, counsels, disciplines, and evaluate staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Manage and implement the following programs:
- Blood borne pathogens,
- CPR,
- Fire extinguisher training,
- OSHA regulations
- Management on Duty training,
- Crisis management training,
- Key control, lost and found,
- ADA regulations,
- Hazard communications,
- Compliance issues
- At least 5 years security, law enforcement or investigative experience in a managerial position.
- Background should include law enforcement, hotel security, or police sciences with supervisory skills.
- High School and College graduate.
- Experience working in a union environment is a plus
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certified.
Ethical Awareness
- Loss prevention, investigation, fire and safety.
- Working under pressure, using good judgment, handling confidentiality, using tact and discretion.
- Extensive knowledge of city fire laws and regulations, state penal law and general business law.
- Communicating effectively verbally and written in all situations.
- Supervising and delegating responsibilities.
- Designing, developing and implementing security-operating procedures.
- Patrol all areas of the building, climbing stairs and ladders, responding quickly to emergency situations, lifting and caring emergency equipment above 50 lb.
- Maneuver in tight, crowded and difficult situations.
- Standing and walking for long period of time.
- Applying physical force against an individual.
