What is my role?
As a Transportation Logistics Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in optimizing supply chain operations and ensuring seamless, cost-effective transportation solutions. Your leadership will drive efficiency in global sourcing, import logistics, carrier management, and last-mile delivery, directly impacting customer satisfaction and business success. What You'll Do
- Develop and implement transportation strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and meet customer expectations.
- Continuously optimize delivery schedules for timely, cost-effective distribution of goods, materials, and products.
- Work closely with internal teams (sourcing, production, and demand planning) to forecast and align transportation with global product launch schedules and seasonal fluctuations in international markets.
- Collaborate with global sourcing teams to ensure timely and efficient transportation solutions for products manufactured in key international hubs (e.g., China, Bangladesh, etc.).
- Freight & Customs Coordination: Collaborate with Supply Chain on freight forwarders, customs brokers, and suppliers to manage import timelines, mitigate delays, and optimize transit efficiency.
- Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with trade regulations and duty classifications, to streamline customs clearance and minimize risks.
- Carrier Selection: Strategically select and negotiate with carriers (e.g., trucking companies, freight services, parcel couriers) to secure competitive pricing and superior service levels.
- Freight Operations Management: Direct freight operations, managing transportation modes and outbound shipments to ensure secure and timely delivery while mitigating risks.
- Oversee and continuously improve route planning and vehicle scheduling to enhance fleet efficiency, minimize delays, and optimize resource utilization.
- Continuously monitor shipment progress, addressing disruptions such as delays or reroutes to maintain service reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Implement logistics software for real-time tracking and inventory management.
- Ensure adherence to local, national, and international transportation regulations.
- Manage WAIRE Program Reporting and Compliance
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and risk management strategies to maintain operational integrity.
- Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure operational performance, delivery timeliness, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor and analyze logistics data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Example KPIs: On-time delivery, cost per unit shipped, transit time reliability.
- Leverage logistics technology (e.g., TMS, WMS) to track shipments, monitor inventory, and enhance supply chain visibility.
- Collaborate with sourcing, merchandising, and warehouse teams to streamline transportation efficiency.
- Coordinate the movement of goods by air, land, or sea, ensuring timely deliveries.
- Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers.
- Work closely with supply chain, warehouse, and procurement teams to streamline logistics operations.
- Handle customer inquiries and proactively resolve transportation-related issues to ensure a seamless delivery experience.
- Transportation Strategy for Fashion Drops: Plan and adjust transportation strategies for seasonal collections, promotional sales, and fast fashion drops to meet rapid turnaround times.
- Demand Forecasting & Capacity Management: Manage fluctuating shipment volumes and balance warehouse capacity to prevent stockouts or overstocking, anticipating peak periods (e.g., back-to-school, holiday sales).
- Omnichannel Logistics: Optimize warehouse-to-store and direct-to-consumer (DTC) shipments for omnichannel retail.
- Fast Shipping Solutions: Focus on fast shipping solutions for retail and e-commerce operations.
- Omnichannel Fulfillment Integration: Integrate logistics solutions for warehouse-to-store and direct-to-consumer (DTC) fulfillment.
- Peak Season Management: Manage logistics for peak season demand forecasting, including holiday and promotional periods.
- E-commerce Carrier Negotiations: Negotiate contracts with parcel carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS, USPS) for competitive e-commerce shipping rates.
- Coordinate with logistics partners to optimize reverse logistics costs, including freight consolidation and alternative disposition strategies (e.g., resale, recycling, donation).
- Collaborate with warehouses and distribution centers to streamline returns processing, ensuring fast turnaround for restocking, conversions, or liquidation.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management (10 years).
- Strong understanding of logistics software and integrations; warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), routing portals and carrier/partner integrations.
- Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Clear & Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey logistics information and updates to internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Conflict Resolution & Negotiation: Ability to manage and resolve conflicts with vendors, carriers, and customers to maintain smooth operations.
- Presentation & Reporting: Comfort in presenting logistics performance reports and improvement plans to senior management, stakeholders, and customers.
- Customer-Facing Communication: Proactively manage customer expectations, providing timely updates and resolving transportation-related inquiries and issues.
- Logistics & Transportation Expertise:
- Multi-Modal Transportation Knowledge: Understanding of freight movement by air, ocean, rail, and truck and the ability to determine optimal shipping methods.
- Freight Cost Optimization & Carrier Negotiation: Ability to analyze freight spending, optimize load planning, and negotiate carrier contracts for improved pricing and service levels.
- Reverse Logistics & Returns Management: Experience in designing and implementing efficient returns and exchange processes, including disposal, recycling, and resale strategies.
- Customs Compliance & Trade Regulations: Strong knowledge of import/export regulations, tariffs, USMCA, CBP, HTS codes, and duty classifications to ensure smooth international shipments.
- Metric Development & KPI Management: Ability to establish, track, and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to transportation efficiency, cost control, and service levels.
- Advanced Excel & Data Analytics: Proficiency in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Macros) and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) to analyze transportation data and optimize logistics performance.
- Supply Chain Analytics & Forecasting: Ability to interpret historical data and trends to improve demand planning, capacity forecasting, and cost efficiency.
- Process Improvement & Lean Logistics: Experience with Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen methodologies to enhance logistics efficiency and reduce waste.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with warehouse, procurement, supply chain production, and customer service teams to drive seamless logistics execution.
