Dean of Hyde Academy and CTE Coordinator
Hyde County is one of the truly wild places in North Carolina. Beautiful landscapes, small school settings, on coastal North Carolina Hyde County Schools is in the North Eastern region of the state. Hyde County Schools is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to serve as Dean of Students at Hyde Academy and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator. This leadership role is critical in fostering student success across a range of instructional pathways, including college transfer, career preparation, and dual enrollment programs. The Dean/Coordinator will provide instructional oversight, operational management, and community engagement support for Hyde Academy’s choice programs and CTE initiatives in partnership with Beaufort County Community College (BCCC).

Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- Must hold a valid NC Teaching License
- School Administrator License preferred, but not required.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge and understanding of college transition and college readiness resources,
- research, work and standards
- Knowledge and understanding of CIHS model
- Understanding of college readiness standards and CTE Program Requirements
- Understanding of Career Development Plans
- Enthusiasm and excitement for expanding student opportunities
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and student learning
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Three years experience as a classroom teacher
- Three to five years experience in instructional leadership roles
- Background in high school curriculum, early college, and CTE preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations and instructional quality of Hyde Academy and the assigned CTE duties.
- Provide leadership and exposure opportunities to ALL students enrolled in Hyde Academy.
- Lead the integration of regular education and CTE instruction with dual enrollment and early college pathways.
- Support students and families in navigating college and career readiness opportunities.
School or Organization Improvement:
- Build a vision for Hyde Academy that aligns with Career Development Plan.
- Lead development experiences for students and staff that align with the Portrait of a Graduate look-fors.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to promote program improvement.
Management:
- Recognize excellence and achievement.
- Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
- Define expectations for student performance with regard to academic performance, classroom behavior, and communication with the public.
- Observe student performance, record observations, and conduct student/family conferences to ensure continued success.
- Be part of Ocracoke and Mattamuskeet School Improvement Teams, to work with program level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development and outreach activities.
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions:
- Work with higher education partners to negotiate a memorandum of understanding that establishes the required curriculum plan and simplified class enrollment as well as covers all ongoing financial and in-kind contributions for each organization.
- Develop clear pathways for students based on in school vs. partner school offerings, and support students in owning these pathways as part of their career development plan.
- Ensure recruitment materials and Hyde Academy information are available for potential students, parents, community members, teachers, and principals.
- Comply with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
- Develop program budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control. Accurately report fiscal information.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition textbooks.
Student Management:
- Work with staff to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Ensure that program rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

- Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.

- Articulate Hyde Academy’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
