Hyde County Schools: Contract Facilitator Opening – Ocracoke Citizens Academy
Hyde County Schools invites applications for a contract facilitator to lead the Ocracoke Citizens Academy, a civic education and leadership initiative tailored to the unique needs of the island community. The academy will include a student track and an adult track, fostering intergenerational civic knowledge and leadership development.
Position Overview
- Type: Contracted Facilitator (part-time)
- Duration: Summer & Fall 2025 (approx. 10 sessions)
- Location: Ocracoke Island
- Cohorts: High school students (grades 9–12) and/or adults
- Compensation: Stipend commensurate with experience and cohort leadership
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver a culturally relevant civic academy program exploring island governance, community engagement, and public service.
- Incorporate guest speakers from local government, nonprofit sectors, and historical societies.
- Create bilingual or English learner-friendly content when needed.
- Provide reflective opportunities and leadership development for participants.
- Work closely with Ocracoke School staff for student engagement alignment.
Qualifications
- Background in civic education, leadership development, or community programming.
- Familiarity with Ocracoke Island’s history, community resources, and civic structure.
- Experience working in small or rural communities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability is a plus but not required.
