FirstLight Power is looking for innovative, collaborative, and team-oriented summer temps to join our talented and dynamic team of individuals working to decarbonize the grid and accelerate the clean energy transformation.
Seasonal position from June 23-August 10, 2025 including weekends and holidays.
Shift: 5 days per week; 8:00 am-4:00 pm
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Recreation and Programming, the Recreation Environmental Steward will perform work that involves rotating assignments throughout FirstLight’s recreation grounds located at Turners Falls, Montague, Barton Cove, Northfield and Gill, MA.
Flexibility is needed as FirstLight operates 7 days per week from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and staff will be assigned based on department needs.
FirstLight will provide safety training, boats, paddles, PFDs, and all equipment necessary.
Pay rate: $20/hr.
Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
DUTIES WILL VARY THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER AS THIS IS A ROTATING POSITION
- Launch and paddle a canoe, pull invasive plants on water, load and unload plants;
- Trail maintenance including erosion control and reconstruction;
- Facilitate pleasant customer interactions and ensure customer satisfaction and safety at all times;
- Perform light maintenance including painting and repairs;
- Provide information to customers regarding camping and area use policies;
- Perform safety training to customers;
- Issue rental canoes and kayaks, clean and load on trailer and storage rack;
- Operate pickup truck;
- May help with educational programming to school groups;
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
- Comply with FirstLight policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications / Skills
- High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree or interest in biological or environmental science or education is a plus but not required;
- Experience in biology, natural sciences or outdoor recreation, preferred;
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays with a strong work ethic;
- Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills;
- Desire to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions;
- Strong reading and writing skills and ability interpret and follow strict safety procedures;
- Energetic team-player;
- Must hold a current, valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation;
- First aid and CPR training preferred, however, training is provided if needed;
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions such as rain and heat;
- Ability to be physically mobile, board and un-board canoe/boat independently, and frequently stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch and sit for prolonged periods;
- Must be able to walk up and down flights of stairs, ladders, and ramps, balance, work on uneven surfaces, work in close quarters and carry up to 50 lbs.;
- Ability to swim and paddle a canoe on flat water for approximately ¼ mile;
- Ability to use hand tools.
