Core Job Responsibilities
Manage engineering programs
- Lead a team of design engineers and fabrication/ testing technicians (2-6 direct reports) to execute engineering program activities including design, analysis, prototyping, testing, qualification, and production
- Implement simple and efficient PM and engineering systems
- Fulfill engineering program contract obligations including design reviews, test reports, engineering packages, hardware deliveries, etc.
- Manage engineering program schedules and budgets
- Serve as the primary technical interface with customers
- Support engineering program quoting efforts
- Analyze, track, and mitigate program risks, elevate and communicate risks with management and customer teams
Operate within an AS9100 quality management system
- Serve as a signing member of the Material Review Board for non-conformance dispositions pertaining to assigned engineering programs
- Participate in root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts
- Carry out all engineering activities with meticulous attention to safety, documentation, traceability, and repeatability
Design Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs)
- Define requirements based on customer constraints and industry regulations
- Perform analysis on COPV designs including netting analysis, finite element analysis, thermal analysis, and other stress analysis
- Create engineering packages including CAD models and drawings, shop floor work instructions, and material specifications
- Participate in prototype manufacturing and testing
- Generate detailed engineering reports and design reviews
Design test systems including skids, automation software and hardware, instrumentation, data acquisition, fixtures, and chambers
Participate in COPV production activities including procurement, inspection, assembly, and CNC machine operation
Participate in COPV testing activities including burst testing, cycle testing, damage testing, etc.
Help as needed with quoting efforts, shop organization and cleaning, inventory management, and other tasks
Typical Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- BS Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical) from an accredited university
- At least 5 Years of industry experience in a related field
- High proficiency in CAD modeling and Engineering Drawings (specifically SolidWorks)
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook)
- High proficiency in data acquisition, instrumentation, and test system operation
- High proficiency in data manipulation and presentation
- High proficiency in basic Engineering Skills (design, analysis, problem-solving, etc.)
- High proficiency in technical writing
