We are seeking Sterile Processing Technicians to support the New York Harbor Healthcare System (VA NYHHS) – Manhattan Campus . This role is critical to patient safety , ensuring that surgical instruments, reusable medical devices (RMDs), and patient care equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained .
Technicians will work in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) department, supporting operating rooms (ORs), medical / surgical clinics, inpatient units, dental services, and other procedure areas . The ideal candidates will have experience working in a high-volume hospital or surgical setting and be proficient in decontamination, sterilization, and instrumentation processes.
Key Responsibilities :
- Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and flexible endoscopes per manufacturer guidelines.
- Operate automated washers, ultrasonic cleaners, autoclaves, and sterilization equipment .
- Follow AAMI ST79, ANSI, VA Directive 1116, CDC guidelines, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards .
- Assemble and inspect instrument trays, powered surgical tools, and complex RMDs for defects.
- Perform biological testing, chemical indicators, and quality control measures .
- Maintain accurate documentation using systems like Censitrac, eQMS, and JPSR for incident reporting .
- Adhere to OSHA safety protocols, infection control standards, and high-risk protocols (HRPs) .
Schedule & Compensation :
Employee can work up to 60 days within 3 months or 120 days max in 6 months .
