Our Team
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI), is the design, technology, and engineering arm for all North American models of the Hyundai Motor Group. The electrified propulsion engineering and design (ePED) team is one of the groups in the electrified propulsion development division of HATCI responsible for providing quality, testing, validation, technical support, and component design for all types of vehicle propulsion systems.
The Position
We are looking for a talented, passionate and motivated Electric Vehicle Motor Design Engineer for the EV propulsion design team in our Superior Township, MI facility. As a member of this new group, you will provide Hyundai, Genesis and Kia vehicles with design, simulation, quality enhancement and North American product support through technical expertise in electric drive units and related drive systems. This position reports to the manager of electrified propulsion drivetrain design.
Core Responsibilities
- Work as part of a design and development team on electric drive systems for BEVs and HEVs
- Cascade vehicle-level requirements into electric motor and drive unit subsystem requirements using simulation, testing, and measurement data analysis.
- Define motor architectures, sensors, and connection technologies.
- Develop new or modify existing EV motor designs for new vehicle applications.
- Benchmark competitor EV powertrains for cost, performance, efficiency, and quality.
- Study existing EV motor designs for opportunities for improvement in performance, quality, and cost.
- Provide EV propulsion system technical support for North American assembly plants.
- Track, investigate, and implement solutions for EV driveline quality issues.
- Engage with suppliers to review system and component functional requirements to design and produce EV motors for North American Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia products.
- Conduct EV propulsion system research projects with universities and national labs to discover improved motor designs with lower cost.
- Keep abreast of industry standards and innovative EV motor technology to establish and maintain competitive advantage.
- Report benchmark results, quality issue resolution, and internal design project status to management in US and abroad.
- Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)
