At Hyundai Steel America, the Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the company’s efforts to reduce workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses. This position ensures compliance with safety regulations, coordinates safety training, and leads initiatives to improve the overall safety culture.

The Safety Coordinator works closely with the HR Team and other departments, to maintain a safe work environment for all Team Members, visitors, and contractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts Regular Safety Audits and Inspections: Regularly performs safety walk-throughs to identify hazards, compliance issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Leads Incident Investigations: Assists in identifying root causes of accidents and injuries, and develops corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
  • Facilitates Safety Training and Orientation: Organizes and leads safety training sessions monthly and also conducts new hire safety orientation as needed, ensuring all Team Members are informed of company safety policies and procedures.
  • Manages Emergency Preparedness: Coordinates and conducts regular emergency drills, ensuring the emergency preparedness program is effective and up to date.
  • Ensures Safety Compliance: Collaborates with management to ensure adherence to workers' compensation laws and regulations. Assists with the maintenance and updating of safety documentation, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Hazard Communication Programs.
  • Develops Safety Culture: Contributes to continuous improvement efforts in safety awareness, including policy creation, implementation, and risk assessments.
  • Provides Regulatory Inspections Support: Coordinates communication with management regarding inspection activities and ensures corrective actions are taken when necessary.
  • Monitors PPE and Safety Equipment: Ensures the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices in the workplace.
  • Assists with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs): Supports the team in analyzing job hazards and recommending improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage projects, and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to work across shifts and travel to satellite facility at least once a month
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in safety roles, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
  • Experience managing safety training programs
  • Knowledge of Workers' Compensation laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of database management and safety record keeping
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move throughout the facility, including walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 35 lbs. manually
  • Close vision, distance vision, and depth perception required
  • This role may require extended hours or flexible scheduling based on facility needs.

Work Environment:

This role is based primarily in a climate-controlled office but will also involve walking and moving through a manufacturing environment, where noise levels may be moderate to loud. Pay: Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
