JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Ultrasound Technician at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality diagnostic
sonographic imaging services to veterans. This position combines technical expertise, patient care, and collaboration within a fastpaced
radiology team. With a flexible schedule, this role is ideal for professionals dedicated to providing exceptional service across a
variety of shifts.
Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging Procedures:
Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, vascular, and small parts imaging, ensuring
adherence to American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and VA standards.
Utilize advanced ultrasound equipment, adjusting settings as necessary to capture high-quality images for diagnostic interpretation.
Patient Care and Comfort:
Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures, answer questions, and address any concerns.
Ensure patients are properly positioned and comfortable during imaging studies.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Follow all technical and professional standards, ensuring compliance with VA policies, HIPAA regulations, and patient safety
protocols.
Maintain proper documentation in the VA’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, including procedural notes and image records.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic results.
Participate in department meetings and contribute to discussions on process improvements and patient care enhancements.
Equipment Maintenance:
Regularly inspect and calibrate ultrasound equipment to maintain operational readiness.
Report any equipment malfunctions promptly to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Qualifications
Certification: Must hold active certification with the ARDMS in diagnostic ultrasound scanning.
Experience: A minimum of two years of continuous professional work experience in diagnostic sonography within the last four years.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating a variety of sonographic imaging systems and performing specialized scans.
Familiarity with safety protocols and quality control measures in diagnostic imaging.
Additional Requirements:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider.
Strong communication skills, with fluency in English (written and verbal).
Special Requirements
Training Compliance:
Completion of VA-mandated annual training, including Active Threat, Patient Safety, and HIPAA-focused courses.
Health Clearances:
Proof of immunizations, including tuberculosis screening and influenza vaccination.
Must meet VA health screening requirements.
Continuing Education:
Participation in ongoing professional development to stay updated with the latest sonography techniques and VA standards.
