Communications Strategist  

Salary Range: $55,000-85,000 

Reports to the Executive Director 

Full time-Salaried 

Location: Remote, based in Nebraska with intentional in-person meetings

Job Purpose: 

The Communications Strategist supports all aspects of the communications strategy to further the organizational mission, increase public awareness and support initiative areas. The Communications Strategist plays a key role as the quarterback of the communications strategy.  

The ideal candidate will be a self starter that has an innovative mindset, that is excited to curate and showcase the voice of the organization. This person knows how to organize and manage different projects, and has refined their skillsets in the areas of technical writing (example press releases) and can also create change through storytelling and narrative shift approaches. 

Core Functions: 

Digital Communications and Media Relations:  

• Ensure consistent brand management across all platforms. 
• Develop and refine platform-specific digital strategies and processes plus digital media content. 
• Manage and update the website. 
• Lead internal monthly news and media clip distribution.  
• Write press releases in partnership with team members.  
• Pitch and secure news stories and placements including op-eds and feature stories.  
• Effectively manage the media database. 
• Collaborate with project and team leads to effectively advertise events and to promote IBBG.  
• Manage the social media and internal communications associate to ensure the social media strategy and approach aligns to the brand goals of IBBG. 

Brand Management and Organizational Support  

• Manage organization inventory process. 
• Update annually the brand guide in partnership with executive leadership.  
• Ensure internal staff understand and can apply key talking points and language for their initiative areas.  
• Provide media prep support to staff.  

Strategic Communications 

• Work in partnership with other team members to co-produce external communications and collateral that align with the IBBG mission and brand. 
• Effectively engage the team and track projects through the use of project management software. 
• Provides strategy and thought partnership for major communication efforts. 
• Utilized storytelling and narrative shift frameworks to help achieve organizational and initiative goals.  

Qualifications: 

• 3-5 years' experience working in strategic communication roles including but not limited to social media, marketing and brand development. 
• Passion for reproductive justice and a deep understanding of how issues of race, gender, economic inequity, and health intersect. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build trust and relationships across diverse communities. 
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, coalition partners, and policy makers. 
• Strong technical writing skills.  

Other Requirements 

• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary. 
• Access to reliable transportation. 
• Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms is a plus.
