Pay Range: $60–$75/hour, based on experience

Opportunity Overview
Working closely with the Director of Foundation Relations, the Grant Writer’s scope encompasses researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals and reports, maintaining a submission timeline, and serving as a primary contact for foundations across the locations we serve—primarily Chicago, Kansas City, and Milwaukee. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing skills, strong time management, and project management abilities.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced grant writer who can take initiative and work independently while collaborating effectively with our Development Team. You will play a key role in securing funding that supports our mission and programs.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Management
- Develop compelling grant proposals and reports that effectively communicate the organization’s vision, mission, key performance indicators, and program strategy to potential funders, following each grant-maker’s guidelines.
- Maintain the current portfolio of corporate and foundation funders, ensuring on-time submission of letters of interest, grant proposals, reports, and other requests.
- Research and analyze grant-making organizations in current and future program locations to identify new funding opportunities aligned with organizational goals.
- Own the grant writing process, from drafting proposals to submission, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
- Maintain communication with grant-making organizations, providing subsequent materials upon request and tracking reporting deadlines and requirements.
- Provide updates on grant progress and organizational relationships to the Director of Foundation Relations, Chief Revenue Officer, and other members of the Development Team.
- Scope of work may evolve based on organizational needs, with mutual agreement.
Grant & Funding Strategy
- Collaborate with the Development Team to ensure alignment of grant opportunities with organizational funding priorities.
- Assist in the development of long-term grant strategies to diversify and expand funding sources.
- Work with program staff to collect data, impact stories, and other necessary materials for grant submissions and reports.
- Develop and maintain clean records of all grant activity, including relevant data, participant impact stories, and historical notes on granting organizations.
Collaboration & Team Support
- Develop internal tracking and reporting systems to monitor grant deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
- Foster strong relationships with program and development staff to ensure effective collaboration in gathering necessary information for grant applications and reports.
- Represent i.c.stars' vision, mission, and values with passion and integrity.
What You Bring
- Experience: 3–5 years of grant writing experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Technical Skills: Experience with grant research databases, Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with grant-makers in the Midwest, particularly in Kansas City and Milwaukee.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects concurrently while maintaining high attention to detail.
- Communication: Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive, compelling narratives.
- Collaboration: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced setting, adjusting priorities as needed.
Desired but not required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field.
- Certified Project Manager (PMI).
- Baseline knowledge of technology, AI tools, or software languages.
