POSITION OVERVIEW
At I Dream Big Academy Charter School, we believe that student success starts with emotional well-being. The Mental Health Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring students receive the mental health support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating mental health services within the school, working closely with students, families, staff, and external agencies to foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support & Intervention
Provide direct support – Offer counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health screenings for students in need.
Develop intervention plans – Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators to create individualized support strategies.
Offer a safe space – Act as a trusted resource for students experiencing emotional distress, trauma, or personal challenges.
Assess student mental health needs – Identify at-risk students and connect them with appropriate services.
Program Development & School Wide Initiatives
Implement school wide mental health initiatives – Design programs to promote social-emotional learning, resilience, and mindfulness.
Provide mental health education – Conduct training and workshops for students, staff, and families on mental wellness, coping skills, and crisis prevention.
Promote a culture of wellness – Foster an environment where mental health is prioritized and stigma is reduced.
Collaboration & Community Partnerships
Work with school staff – Partner with counselors, teachers, and administrators to integrate mental health strategies into daily school life.
Connect families with resources – Refer students and families to community mental health agencies, therapists, and support networks.
Coordinate crisis response – Lead efforts to respond effectively to student mental health crises, including suicide prevention and postvention planning.
Compliance & Documentation
✔ Maintain student records – Ensure all mental health services and interventions are properly documented in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and Alabama state laws.
Monitor and report trends – Analyze schoolwide mental health data to identify areas of need and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
Ensure legal and ethical practices – Follow all state and federal regulations regarding student mental health care and reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
✔ Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related mental health field required.
✔ Licensed or eligible for licensure in Alabama (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent).
✔ Experience providing mental health services in a school, clinical, or community setting.
✔ Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed care, and behavioral intervention strategies.
✔ Familiarity with Alabama state laws regarding school mental health services, child welfare, and mandated reporting.
✔ Proficiency in case management, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
NICE TO-HAVES
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Training in restorative practices, mindfulness, or social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other languages).
- Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for mental health services.
