Organization Overview: The mission of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation – New York (IHDF-NY) is to motivate and empower children and families living in underserved areas of the tri-state region to reach their college and career goals. We achieve this by providing a dynamic, long-term program of mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment with an assured opportunity for higher education. Our unique approach involves sponsoring entire grade levels of 50-100 students (known as “Dreamers”) in under-resourced public schools or housing developments and supporting them from early elementary school through high school. Upon high school graduation, each Dreamer receives guaranteed tuition assistance for higher education.
By helping our Dreamers gain access to college, we aim to change their academic and life trajectories, positively impacting their families and future generations.
Job Summary: The After School Group Leader supports the after-school activities at the “I Have A Dream” Foundation – New York: Chelsea Program. This role involves directly tutoring and coaching elementary and middle school students in small group settings and one-on-one sessions. The Group Leader provides academic support during homework, reading, and enrichment activities.

General Information
- Job Title: Group Leader

- Reports To: Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director
- Support Dreamers with homework and academic tasks
- Provide one-on-one reading tutoring
- Assist with student transitions between activities
- Facilitate enrichment activities
- Actively participate in physical fitness, music, dance, and arts activities
- Maintain accurate attendance records
- Support during snack time
- Communicate weekly updates on student performance
- Serve as a positive role model for all Dreamers
- Participate in meetings and training sessions
- Maintain a safe and clean program site
- Adhere to program policies and procedures
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Program Director
- Strong proficiency in reading and writing
- Ability to tutor students in reading
- Excellent listening skills
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude under pressure
- Collaborative and caring communication style with staff and Dreamers
- Ability to multitask effectively
- Friendly and approachable demeanor
- Spanish or Arabic language skills are a plus
- Schedule: 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with additional hours as needed
- Mandatory training session in mid-September
- Work environment: Inside a public school setting
- Physical requirements: Ability to participate in and lead physical activities such as fitness, dance, and sports; ability to stand for extended periods; ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; ability to navigate the school environment including stairs and outdoor areas
