Health and Safety Technician – Quality Assurance (Airport Business Lounge)

I.K. Hofmann is recruiting for a Health and Safety Technician for the JFK, NY Airport. This position requires a self-motivated and reliable candidate that is able to work in a professional environment.

Starting Pay of $24.29- $25.00 per hour

Job Summary :

The Health and Safety Technician – Quality Assurance works closely with lounge management and staff to maintain health and safety standards within the airport business lounge by ensuring compliance with HACCP and food safety plans, sanitation protocols, chemical usage regulations, and quality assurance standards. This role involves monitoring temperature control, chemical concentration accuracy, hygiene compliance, and appearance standards to provide a safe and premium experience for passengers and staff and promote a strong Food Safety Culture among all staff.

Requirements :

Health and Safety Compliance :

Health Certificate (NY) : Obtain and maintain a New York Department of Health’s Food Protection Certificate to meet regulatory requirements.
Local Health Inspections : Ensure all required health and safety documentation is up to date and accessible for audits.
Regulatory Compliance : Work closely with airport health officials and inspectors to ensure all sanitation and safety protocols are met.

Quality Assurance & Monitoring :

Temperature Monitoring & Recording : Confirms temperature monitoring of cooking, cooling, food storage and display are conducted and documented, and appropriate corrective actions are conducted to maintain food safety.Maintain detailed logs and immediately report any variances to prevent contamination risks.

Chemical Usage & Concentration Verification : Ensure the correct cleaning products are used properly and at the correct concentration levels for food service and general sanitation.Monitor the use of approved degreasers, soaps, and sanitizers in compliance with food safety regulations.Perform routine concentration tests using titration kits and test strips to verify proper dilution and effectiveness of sanitizing solutions.Maintain records of chemical concentration checks and document any corrective actions.

Appearance & Cleanliness Standards : Conduct routine inspections of lounge seating areas, restrooms, and food service stations to ensure high cleanliness standards.Verify that proper cleaning and sanitization protocols are followed in kitchen and dining areas .Oversee waste disposal, pest control, and general hygiene procedures to ensure compliance with airport and health codes.

Additional Responsibilities :

Conduct training sessions for lounge staff on chemical safety, hygiene practices, and food safety protocols .

Monitor restocking and proper storage of cleaning supplies and sanitizers .

Assist in developing and implementing health and safety policies specific to the lounge environment.

Stay updated on airport health regulations and industry best practices to maintain compliance.

Support emergency preparedness , including food safety incidents, spill clean-up procedures, and first aid response.

Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in health, safety, or food service sanitation preferred.

New York Food Protection Certificate (or ability to obtain within 30 days upon hiring).

Experience in food safety, sanitation, or chemical management preferred.

Knowledge of titration kits, test strips, and chemical concentration testing .

Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping and documentation skills .

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced airport lounge environment .

Essential Functions :

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Must be able to move around for an extended periods of time.

Ability to move up to 50 lbs when necessary.

Must be able to discern and provide written and oral instructions and communication

Must be able to exchange accurate information written and orally

Work environment :

Are sometimes exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures.

Exposure to approved cleaning products

Work near others and often share the same workspace.

Occasionally work in extremely bright or dim lighting conditions.

Exposure to stoves, ovens, microwaves and sharp cooking tools like knives and scissors, so skill and caution are important

This position ensures compliance with health, safety, and quality assurance protocols , creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for travelers and staff.

Hours : Operational hours are 24 / 7- work hours will vary depending on operational needs.
