Introduction:
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a smooth operation of the Transportation Department and assists with providing 24-hour coverage for the department. Provide general supervision of all Transportation Supervisors and functional processes within the department. Responsible to maintain a properly staffed and trained department. This position involves the scheduling and coordination of all delivery routes and backhaul activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists drivers with repairs and SOS complaints (assigning them to complete a DVIR).
- Assists with scanning and logging in issues.
- Backup to Director of Transportation in collecting driver issued uniform and equipment as needed.
- Advises and support drivers with any potential issues.
- Assist in collecting information for accident or injury reports and submits notification to management.
- Responsible for recovery process of miss-picked items that are needed prior to next delivery date for customers.
- Provide timely contact when route is delayed (prior to appointment time).
- Provide status updates when customer calls in to verify delivery time (through forward thinking).
- Navigate customer complaints to manager or customer service.
- Assist with and stay current on daily shift notes.
- Provide phone support as needed.
- Manage timesheets and time clock for employees.
- Responsible for drivers, driver trainees and driver helpers.
- Assist in finding or providing coverage for transportation call offs (which may include driving routes).
- Be available for rotating on call schedule in department.
- Knowledge of driver's handbook and DOT regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
- High school or GED is required.
- Must possess and maintain valid Ohio Class A CDL.
- 1-2 years' experience in a similar professional setting preferred.
- Working knowledge of company's software programs.
- Working knowledge of forward thinking.
- Experience with BFC-GUI and Zebra Scanning Units.
- Knowledge of dispatch sheets and driver master route schedules.
- Demonstrated leadership/manager responsibilities.
- Experience working in a distribution/transportation environment preferred.
- Solid knowledge of business, financial and management principles and practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
- Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
- Strong working knowledge in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Physical Qualifications:
- Regularly work in an office setting but may be required to walk long distances within a warehouse.
- May experience exposure to freezer, refrigerated and dry sections of warehouse.
- Sit, bend, reach, casual dexterity for document processing and verbal and written communications.
- Occasional warehouse environment with noise, dust, odors and fluctuating temperatures.
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to feel or operate objects, tools, controls, phones and computers.
- Frequently required to situ, stand, speak and hear.
