As a Client Services Clerk at MercyOne, you will primarily be responsible for the general customer service duties of the Laboratory. These include greeting and receiving outpatients, visitors and physicians, handling phone calls, calling results, generating admits into the hospital system for regional lab specimens, placing test orders, receiving and labeling specimens, answering questions from all customers-including regional labs, and maintaining various files. Greets and receives all outpatients, visitors, hospital staff, and physicians to the laboratory area. Answers phone calls and, when indicated, transfers phone calls to the appropriate section of the laboratory. In accordance with laboratory policy, gives verbal reports of laboratory test results to physicians and personnel directly involved in the care of patient. Accurately performs admissions into the hospital system, differentiating billing situations and performs credits in the laboratory information system. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. (if applicable) Accurately calls critical values to lab customers, ensuring person receiving the results perform a verbal read-back. Schedule: This position will be for a Monday Friday 0900-1700. No weekends/holidays. Potential for an earlier start time of 0600 or staying late until 1900. General Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. Preferred: Graduate of Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program. CNA with 2 years of hospital experience. Current students in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Medical Laboratory Science programs. Secondary education in job related classes such as Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Laboratory Science, Medical Terminology, Fundamentals of Laboratory Medicine, or Body Structure and Function.
