As a Clinical Development Specialist at MercyOne, you are a clinical expert in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions (ANA, 2004). A CDS works with other nurses to advance their nursing practice, improve outcomes and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes. The primary goal of the CDS is continuous improvement of patient outcomes, nursing care and advancing nursing professionalism. The CDS functions as a health care provider, educator, consultant, researcher, leader and/or case manager. The CDS will comply with the ANA Standards for quality patient care, anticipate problems and complications and help prevent their development. To retain specialty certification and clinical skills the CDS may schedule hours in direct patient care. Models professional behavior both in the organization and in the community to enhance the profession of nursing. Support and participate in shared leadership and interdisciplinary decision-making. Serve as a team member, leader, mentor, and teacher to patients, students, peers and other colleagues. To care for individuals, families, groups and systems with complex health needs within a specific clinical area. Use theoretical and clinical expertise to assist health care providers and consumers in promoting or achieving optimal health care. Develop and implement ANA standards of nursing practice. Serve as a consultant or resource person for other nurses. Facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of patients. Use and promote evidence-based practice and research to improve clinical nursing practice. Schedule: Days; Monday - Friday. General Requirements: Active registration for registered nurse, Board of Nursing, State of Iowa. Certification in area of specialty or obtained with in the first 2 years of hire. BLS, ACLS or PALS certified. Must possess the ability to instruct in small and large group settings. Must possess leadership skills to promote change and foster accountability of self and others. Must be able to operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health. Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures. Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s degree required or must be enrolled within the first year of hire.
