Our client is seeking a highly analytical and strategic Procurement Specialist to join their Preconstruction Team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in securing competitive pricing and ensuring timely material availability for our construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction materials, strong negotiation skills, and a proven ability to build and maintain strong vendor and Subcontractor relationships.
Responsibilities
- Early-Stage Procurement: Collaborate with assigned Preconstruction Project Manager during the preconstruction phase to identify material needs based on provided scope and define procurement strategies.
- Market Research & Vendor Evaluation: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential suppliers for various construction materials. Evaluate vendor qualifications, capabilities, lead times, and pricing structures to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Bid Management & Negotiation: Develop and issue RFQs (Requests for Quotation) to selected vendors. Analyze received bids, negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to secure the most advantageous contracts.
- Purchase Order Creation & Tracking: Generate and process purchase orders within established company procedures. Track order status, proactively manage lead times, and coordinate with vendors and both internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely material delivery to project sites.
- Risk Management & Value Engineering: Identify potential supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies. Proactively seek out alternative materials or sourcing options to optimize costs without compromising quality or project timelines.
- Relationship Building & Vendor Management: Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with key material suppliers and subcontractors. Stay informed about market trends, material innovations, and potential supply chain disruptions.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Track material costs, vendor performance, and other relevant procurement metrics. Prepare regular reports to provide insights and support decision-making within the Preconstruction team.
- Continued Communication/Management: Collaborate with assigned project managers through the duration of the project for additional procurement needs. Identify products to be ordered through change orders submitted by the project manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven work experience (minimum 5 years) as a Procurement Specialist, Buyer, or similar role within the construction industry, specifically focusing on preconstruction activities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction materials, their properties, applications, and sourcing strategies.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using procurement software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Intermediate plan reading skills along with general construction knowledge and terminology.

40 hours per week plus possible OT
Permanent role, paid as an hourly rate
Starting salary range $70k-$100k
