What are the responsibilities and job description for the BI Data Engineer (Claims) position at IAT Insurance Group?
IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a BI Data Engineer, to design, build, deploy and support claims focused decision support data marts and its associated data integration capabilities. This role works a hybrid schedule out of an IAT office in Raleigh, NC to support IAT Claim organization’s ability to make data-driven decisions. Occasional travel is required. This role will be required to work from the office Monday through Wednesday with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.
The ideal candidate will reside in or near Raleigh, NC and have at least 2-3 years of experience with implementation of decision support data marts preferably for the P&C insurance industry using Microsoft Technologies. Experience with managing data pipelines within Microsoft Fabric platform is preferred.

This role will collaborate closely with the Claims Actuary, BI Analyst and Claims Business leaders to develop and maintain Python \ ETL code and build out user interface assets that support the decision-making needs of IAT’s Claim organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develops a strong understanding of current state claims data environment and the transition path to future state strategic architecture.
- Create and maintain data pipelines using ETL routines and Notebooks developed in Python\ Spark SQL.
- Monitor and optimize data processing workflows to ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading times.
- Implement data quality checks and governance policies to maintain data accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to step through ETL \ Programming code to solve for data related issues.
- Serves as an escalation point for problem-solving and issue resolution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ degree with 2-3 years of progressive experience in planning and executing data integration projects.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation and ETL pipeline development.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, capable of presenting complex issues in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner to the business and technical professionals.
- Demonstrated initiative, self-starter, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines.
