Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a motivated and dynamic Historic Architect to support our historic preservation projects and clients. The qualified candidate will work in close coordination with our professional team and with Senior Project Management on a range of architectural historic preservation projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- This individual will work on projects including detailed investigations of historic properties, historic restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, and compatible new design in historic contexts, as well as, historic rehabilitation tax credits, condition assessments, and historic structure reports.
- Conduct work on projects including detailed investigations of historic properties including historical restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, and compatible new design in historic contexts
- Investigate and recommend historical rehabilitation tax credits. Prepare applications as appropriate.
- Perform condition assessments and prepare historic structure reports
- When required, perform tasks such as contributing to Section 106 evaluations, National Register nominations, historic contexts, and other duties as assigned
- Prepare construction drawings and perform construction administration
- Manage complex tasks on small to medium size projects.
- Participate in the client and project team to assure that the project design meets the client budget, schedule, program, and design intent.
- Assist in the development of project budgets, schedules, and overall work plans.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Extensive experience working with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
- Extensive experience with historic architecture-based project management including working with materials conservators, structural and MEP engineers, cultural landscape architects, and civil engineers
- Extensive experience documenting historic structures and conditions including historic structure reports and Historic American Building Surveys (HABS)
- Extensive experience creating a set of construction documents, and knowledge of contemporary and historic materials, details, and construction methods
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCad
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed for assessment and construction administration
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture is required
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Public History, or closely-related field is preferred
- Minimum of ten years of experience as an architect with historic preservation forming their primary practice
- Qualification in Architecture and Historic Architecture as defined by 36 CFR Part 61, Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards
- Professional license in their state of residence with the capability to be licensed in other states, as needed. NCARB certification preferred.

- $98,200 - $142,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA and DC
- SF Area $104,800/CA Other Areas $91,500 - SF Area $152,000/CA Other Areas $142,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)
