Job Summary :

Oversees the safety, operational, financial, and environmental performance of NYSEG. The role involves steering the strategic direction of the utility, remaining customer focused while contributing to NYSEG’s financial wellbeing. Leads a team responsible for maintenance and construction activities of the Electric Transmission and Distribution systems, Planning, Projects, Hydro and Energy Control Center(s) within the NYSEG jurisdiction. Works in conjunction, and acts as liaison, with Avangrid leadership to ensure best practice utilization and coordination among operating companies while ensuring that NYSEG objectives are met. Guarantees that NYSEG has a robust long-term operational plan (investments, technology, budgets) and a clear roadmap to deliver operational goals.

Actively participates, takes ownership and signs-off in all rate case proposals related to operations, planning and project construction at NYSEG, including implementation of objectives related to New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Provides leadership and direction to achieve goals (operational and financial), implement change and foster efficiencies. Maintains awareness of state and federal legislation and policies and determines glidepath for integration into the business as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Directs the development and implementation of the annual business plan and 5-year CAPEX plan, for Electric Distribution including O&M and Capital budgets.
  • Directs the progress and reallocates resources as necessary to ensure goal achievement (Safety, Reliability and Customer Service).
  • Oversees operations and financial performance, including, but not limited to, budgeting, risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Leverages internal and external resources, and ensuring efficient, quality, and cost-effective management of resources across NYSEG.
  • Provide leadership with a focus on safety and reliability while influencing team members to deliver business outcomes.
  • Develop and mentor a skilled workforce, supporting talent management and employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and corporate standards.
  • Manage the utility with a customer-centric approach, balancing reliability, service, and cost.
  • Promote the NYSEG brand and value propositions.
  • Creates a climate of innovation, in which ideas for process improvement are continually encouraged from within the organization.
  • Strategic partner with other leaders to develop and implement plans to meet organizational safety, operational, and financial goals.
  • Directs electric operation initiatives, including the preparation of budgets and the tracking, cost control, and reporting of actual O&M and capital expenditures.
  • Responsible for the achievement of corporate and / or regulatory goals and requirements.
  • Directs the activities related to representation of the companies for state, regional or national issues. Acts as liaison for the Company with customers and with state and municipal agencies to coordinate efforts.
  • Directs corporate capital and operating budgetary process including forecasting, controlling, and reconciling in order to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability across the enterprise.
  • Directs activities related to Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Response efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field experience.
  • Will consider a combination of equivalent education and years of related experience.
  • At least 15 years of experience in Electric Transmission and / or Distribution operations, construction, projects, customer service or a combination of relevant experience in the regulated utility industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of company, federal and state regulation, safety and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Leverage technology to improve business processes.
  • Ability to proactively monitor changing industry trends and develop appropriate strategies / plans.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, both within the company and externally.
  • Ability to originate, reflect upon, articulate, and implement strategies and manage through corporate changes.
  • Able to build a strong sustaining culture and secure high levels of employee engagement with expertise in creating an environment resulting in employee satisfaction, creativity, and empowerment.
  • Must be highly adaptable and resilient to change.
  • Strong ability to build and manage collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task and quickly prioritize projects and work under pressure to meet business needs.
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills in effectively managing large workforce.
  • Knowledge of the electric and gas industry.
  • Ability to work non-traditional work hours (nights and weekends) as needed for emergency and crisis communications.
  • Preferred :

  • Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.
  • Familiarity with utility rate case processes.
