Title : Supervisor - Substation OperationsReports to : Senior Manager, Substation OperationsLocation : Orange, CTWork Type : OfficeThe base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $111,544 to $139,431JOB SUMMARY : Scope of Work - Main duties, settings, geography, reportingrelationships, other relationships : Responsible for the supervision and planning of skilled workers in theSubstation Operations department which includes personnel responsiblefor substation construction and maintenance and system protection andcontrol. Directs and controls the safe construction, maintenance, andoperation of transmission and distribution substations and isresponsible for all division / district switching and taggingcoordination. Oversees the installation, testing, and maintenance of allprotective devices, control circuits, and supervisory equipment forelectric and / or gas operations, if applicable. Ensures that work iscompleted in accordance with internal and industry standards followingapproved policies, procedures, safety rules, budgets and in a mannerthat promotes customer satisfaction.MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range ofresponsibilities) : 1. Plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work of SubstationOperations personnel and administers local department budgets. Plans andcoordinates with related departments and oversees all substation relatedconstruction, modification and maintenance projects, including majorcapital, TDIRP, substation automation and minor capital substationprojects. Responsible for transmission and bulk power delivery systems.2. Prepares and implements reliability focused PreventativeMaintenance programs for responsible departments in support of corporateeliability goals, Public Service Commission / Public Utility Commissiontargets, and NERC / NPCC Electric Reliability Organization (ERO)compliance standards, including the new "Bright Line" requirements forfacilities rated 100kV and above. Responsible for customer satisfactionwhich may include substation reliability, system power quality and / ortimely connection of all URD underground services. Coordinatesmaintenance and construction projects with Substation Operationspersonnel and other departments, and contractors.3. Coordination of activities, resources and support with theSubstation Automation and Technical Support department, includingdistribution SCADA and substation automation projects.4. Become knowledgeable in the electric utility industrytechnological advancements including IEC 61850 protocol. Ensure thatall personnel receive the necessary training to install, operate,maintain and test this equipment.5. Provides technical support to other departments, such ascoordination for substation outage requests, oil spill cleanup, andproblem investigation. Coordinates safe delivery and installation ofmobile substations and other power equipment.6. Coordinates safety training and inspections, including completingdocumentation and conducting safety incident investigations. Trainspersonnel in theoretical and practical application of protectiondevices, control systems, electric switching and tagging, and othersafety practices. Evaluates and documents employees' performance andprogression and conducts or oversees the annual performance appraisalprocess. Responsibilities include labor relations contractadministration and communications.7. Plays key role in local and / or IUSA Incident Command Structurefor all storm and system emergencies, including standing weekly duty ona rotating schedule, where required.8. Directs Substation Operations' and / or other department crews andprovides solutions to emergency situations on an as-needed 24-hourbasis, including storm restoration, system emergency resolution andsupport. Responds to after-hours calls, including standing weekly dutyon a rotating schedule, where required.9. Supervises contract personnel engaged in construction, testingand operations of substation facilities and maintains the documentationof equipment configuration and operating instructions for futurereference. Acts as division / district switching coordinator.10. Assists with substation work such as print-interpretation,troubleshooting, problem investigation, equipment testing, set-up andon-the-job training of Substation Operations UC&M Mechanic and SP&CTechnician apprentices and other personnel.JOB REQUIREMENTS : Education & Experience Required :

  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 4 years relevant experiencepreferred. Associates Degree with a minimum of 7 years relevantexperience or High School / GED with the completion of the relevantprogression program and 10 years relevant experience required.
  • Knowledge of electrical or mechanical technology, electricsubstations and substation equipment, distribution equipment, controlcircuits, system protection and control devices, electronics, physics,digital electronics, electric power systems, meters, instruments,accounting, meter principles, drafting, blueprint reading and / orswitching & tagging.
  • Knowledge of facility systems, electrical, HVAC, energymanagement and control systems is a plus.Skills / Abilities :

  • Strong supervisory, project management and computer skillsapplicable to (but not limited to) WMS, CMS, OMS, SAP, Microsoft Wordand Microsoft Excel.
