ABOUT IBERIA COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CENTER:
Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center (ICCHC) and its satellite health centers are the leading providers of primary health care services in the communities we serve, including individuals who are both insured and uninsured. ICCHC provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive health care services, including dental care. Our dental services provide a full array of preventative and restorative dental services for patients three years of age and over.
ICCHC is currently seeking multiple full-time Dental Assistants for its New Iberia and Lafayette locations.
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
This position works under the supervision of the Staff Dentists and Dental Director, the Certified Dental Assistant renders dental care to patients. The Dental Assistant performs semi-technical dental and routine clerical work in a dental department located in a community health center. Work involves assisting the dentist during examinations and treatment, cleanings, sterilizing, and arranging instruments, assisting the dentist with x-rays and performs routine tasks according to standards, procedures and instructions.
The CDA must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical education, safety and related criteria for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate and a graduate of a State approved Dental Assistant School
- Six months of experience in a dentist’s office or completion of a Dental Assistant training course
- CPR certification by the American Board for Dental Assisting preferred
- Knowledgeable of the types of dental instruments and their use; techniques of effective sterilization and x-ray
- Skilled in mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
- Able to follow written instructions to learn technical knowledge and dental procedures, to work with people who are mentally ill or physically handicapped, to post and maintain accurate and correct records of treatments administered, appointments including x-rays
- Must have a positive attitude towards working with low-income families
