JOB SUMMARY:
Part Time or Relief position Provide basic patient care. Perform routine treatment procedures and assist
in maintenance of a safe, clean environment. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and
departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include
neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
SUPERVISED BY: Medical Surgical Unit Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of basic nursing skills course at an accredited
nursing program Competency checklist for each identified tasks. Student in good standing of a nationally accredited nursing
program with completion of first semester of acute care clinical course. CPR Certification or must obtain within 30
calendar days of date of position
PRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform routine treatment procedures, to include invasive
procedures such as venipuncture for lab draws and IV initiation Assist nursing staff in complicated treatment procedures;
perform routine treatment procedures Provide basic patient care; assist with ADL’s to include
bathing and assisting patient to the bathroom, take and record vital signs to
include temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and
intake-output measurements Collect, label, and transport specimens Transport equipment, supplies, charts, and materials Make rounds, handle patient requests, report and record changes
in condition or behavior of patients or unusual incidents, within scope of
training Make rounds and handle basic patient requests, and perform basic
patient and family assistance tasks Clean patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; report
equipment problems; order and store supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels Assist and accompany patients in the admission, transfer and
discharge process Prepare patients for meals, and also assist patients as necessary Deliver and pick-up meal trays, pass the beverage cart, and assist
designated patients to chair, with ambulation, or to the bathroom Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families
in accordance with Hospitals standards Enhance professional growth and development
through participation in educational programs, reading current literature,
attending in-services, meetings and workshops Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and
protocols Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by
seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current
policies and processes Identify and report/correct environmental conditions
and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk Report potential or actual patient safety concerns,
medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner Encourage patients to actively
participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or
situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
