Job Summary
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) support consumers to achieve their desired quality of life and ensure optimal health and safety, provide prescribed support and supervision, assist consumers to be as independent as possible and to maintain their homes so they are clean, safe, and hazard free.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Behavior should be professional at all times, consistent with our culture, mission, values, philosophy and policies and procedures, including treating consumers and others with dignity and respect
- Assist consumers in maintaining safe and healthy lifestyles, monitor for changes in their general health, appearance, behavior and patterns of activities
- Provide direct supervision, must remain alert and awake at all times - this is not a sleeping position
- Responsible for monitoring and maintaining a clean, safe and secure environment at all times
- Provide training and assistance to all consumers in making healthy dietary choices, following any pre-established orders by medical professionals and following consumers Individual Support Plan
- Plan and support consumers in daily activities, including, but not limited to, cooking, household chores, recreational activities, learning activities, physical fitness activities and money management
- Responsible for assisting consumers as directed by the Individualized Support Plan or Behavioral Support Plan with personal hygiene skills and tasks, including assisting with bathroom responsibilities, ensuring consumers complete shaving, brushing teeth, bathing/showering, shampooing, and dressing appropriately for the weather and type of activities
- Complete paperwork, as necessary, to meet federal and state regulatory requirements
- Complete mandatory, on-going training requirements within required timeframes and meeting region required competency levels
- Report to work on time, if unable to report to work, or if there is a need to be late for work, or leave early, follow the appropriate approval policy
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Safely transport consumers to and from recreational activities, errands, work, and personal appointments, and comply with vehicle safety, maintenance and cell phone use policies
- Converses with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and promote social interaction
- Capable of giving medications as prescribed by a doctor, under the supervision of MAC Nurse as well as counting and document medications given to the consumer
- Carry out directions and other duties as given by management
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- 0-3 years working in human services, preferably with intellectual disabilities
Additional Requirements
- Required to have a "negative" response from the criminal repository
- Must be at least 19 years of age for employment
- Must have a valid driver's license, auto insurance, insurable driving record and SSN
- Basic fluency in oral and written English
- Maintain active state required training and/or certifications
- Must remain alert and awake at all time

- Changing briefs

- Changing soiled clothing

- Assisting with bathroom responsibilities
Household and Safety Tasks
- Housecleaning duties (laundry, vacuuming, cleaning showers, tubs, dishes, taking out garbage)
- Preparing meals
- Conducting required evacuation drills and other safety training
- Administering consumer medications
Health and Safety Precautions
- Exposure to potential bloodborne pathogens (BBP)
- Following all required safety protocols

Pay: $10.18 - $10.54 per hour
