The IT Scrum Master must be able to meet the key criteria below:

Location: 100% remote

Years’ Experience: 7 years’ experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT related field required

Security Clearance: IBR is a federal contractor. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance

NOTE: United States Citizenship is required as part of the eligibility criteria to be able to obtain this type of security clearance

Employment Type: Exempt

Key Skills:

  • Strong software background with the ability to understand and engage with technical details from each team at a foundational level
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean Six Sigma
  • Proficiency in using Jira as an Agile project management tool
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification is required with at least three years experience leading projects

 

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scrum Master to support our MAHRS ORBIT customer.  The MAHRS team is a Headquarters level organization within the Department of the Navy that operates within a fast-paced environment at the “C” suite level. The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating the Scrum processes and ceremonies daily, ensuring the team adheres to Agile principles, and delivering a successful implementation of MAHRS Strategic Initiatives (specifically the TF/HRBI ORBIT). The Scrum Master works closely with several cross-functional teams, including business analysts across ORBIT (government and contractors) and stakeholders, to optimize ORBIT Epic, Story, Task tracking, maintain a high standard of quality, and ensure the team remains focused on achieving all ORBIT project goals. The MAHRS – ORBIT Scrum Master will work closely with the government Scrum Master to lead and to optimize implementation of agile methodologies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Agile Ceremonies: Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Ensure effective time management and encourage full ORBIT team participation.
    • Facilitate or guide ORBIT product owner, team, and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum concepts, values, practices, and principles focusing on improving overall team effectiveness.
    • Leads discussions and decision making and assists in mediation of conflict resolution and/or ORBIT friction points.
    • Clearly coordinate communication and dependencies.
    • Cross team collaboration—plan regular sync ups between teams to manage dependencies and ensure alignment on shared goals.
    • Lead joint backlog grooming sessions for interconnected features, projects and products.
    • Provides advanced technical knowledge and analysis of ORBIT environment(s), work with ORBIT SMEs on functional solution analysis, design, integration, documentation, training, and implementation advice on complex problems that require knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation.
    • Applies a data-driven approach to perform requirements analysis; create requirement specifications and documentation; prioritize based on customer and stakeholder objectives; and provide project status through until full completion.
    • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the teams and recommend adjustments as needed.
    • Provides analytical rigor in building dashboards and tools to capture team metrics to monitor progress.
    • Work closely with product owners to manage backlog and optimize efficiencies
  • Remove Obstacles: Identify and address impediments that may hinder the team's progress, fostering a collaborative environment
  • Coach and Mentor: Guide the ORBIT team in Agile practices, promoting continuous improvement and self-organization. Support team members in understanding and embracing the Scrum framework
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between the development team and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project status, risks, and issues
  • Sprint Management: Assist in defining sprint goals and objectives, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that the ORBIT group delivers tasks with high quality and meets the organization’s standards and requirements
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and dependencies, developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with the team and stakeholders
  • Documentation: Maintain and update ORBIT documentation, ensuring it is accessible and up to date
  • Continuous Improvement: Encourage the team to experiment, learn from failures, and continuously refine processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience as a Scrum Master
  • Must be able to obtain up to a Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
  • Proven experience in leading Agile teams
  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong software background with the ability to understand and engage with technical details from each team at a foundational level
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean
  • Proficiency in using Jira as an agile project management tool
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • A proactive and positive attitude, with a passion for driving continuous improvement to deliver results through to completion
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of accountability, initiative, perseverance and responsibility
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification is required

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While this position primarily involves sedentary work in an office environment and/or home-office environment, there are some physical demands associated with the role, including:

  • Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment or materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Occasional travel to client sites or meetings may be required
  • Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements
  • Additionally, flexible work arrangements may be available based on business needs
  • Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities, and abilities
