Licensed, dedicated school counselor needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville.
The school counselor will work with the other members of the mental health department to plan and carry out an effective school counseling program. The school counselor aids children in developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners.
Salary based on IC Imagine’s Salary Schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment through both proactive/preventative and responsive counseling programming.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
- Work effectively as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the IC Imagine community.
- Support the value of education.
- Provide individual counseling and group Social Emotional skill building to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic and family concerns.
- Implement consistent data collection methods in order to monitor growth of skill building groups.
- Provide conflict mediation support between students and their peers as well as between students and teachers, including classwide and small group restorative circles as needed.
- Manage 504 plans and related documents.
- Assist in making recommendations for core Social Emotional Learning practices: curriculum, instructional practices, and the scope and sequence for the year based on available data.
- Keep abreast of new information, evidence based practices, and innovative ideas and techniques.
- Work as a part of the school’s student support (MTSS) team to problem solve individual student’s social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Support continued development of Social Emotional Behavioral tiers of support within our MTSS framework, including the facilitation of SEL universal screenings.
- Collaborate with other members of the Mental Health team, teachers, support staff and the IC Imagine community to enhance the educational opportunities for all students.
- Serve as a member of IC Imagine’s Crisis Response Team, as well as our local charter school team.
- Work as a member of the school’s Behavior Threat Assessment and Management Team to conduct threat and risk assessments and create the corresponding support plans.
- Assist students in maintaining regular attendance through counseling interventions, monitoring attendance records, and collaborating with teachers and parents to address barriers to attendance.
- Assist with student schedules, ensuring alignment with academic goals, individual needs, and school requirements.
- Correspond regularly with families.
- Will perform additional duties as specified by administration.
Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in problem solving and decision making as well as observation, listening, and coaching
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Maintain effective working relationships
- Possess strong time management skills
- Ability to prioritize workload and multitask in a busy environment
- Proficiency with GSuite
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Master’s Degree
- Valid North Carolina teaching license
- 1 year experience, preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching and bending
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
