Licensed, dedicated school social worker needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville. This is a one-year funded position until June 30, 2025.

The social worker will work with teachers, parents, and school administrators to develop plans and strategies to improve students' academic performance and social development. The social worker aids children in developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
  • Work effectively as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the IC Imagine community.
  • Support the value of education.
  • Provide individual counseling and group Social Emotional skill building to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic and family concerns.
  • Case manage students designated as McKinney Vento
  • Support students and families with chronic attendance issues
  • Connect students and families with available community resources including but not limited to food and housing security, transportation, and medical and mental health supports
  • Help students process their problems and plan goals and action.
  • Mediate conflict between students and their peers as well as between students and teachers, including classwide restorative circles as needed.
  • Assist in making recommendations for Social Emotional Learning curriculum, instructional practices, and the scope and sequence for the year.
  • Keep abreast of new information, evidence based practices, and innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Work as a part of the school's student support (MTSS) team to problem solve individual student's social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Support continued development of Social Emotional Behavioral tiers of support within our MTSS framework, including the facilitation of SEL universal screenings.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Mental Health team, teachers, support staff and the IC Imagine community to enhance the educational opportunities for all students.
  • Serve as a member of IC Imagine's Crisis Response Team, as well as our local charter school team.
  • Work as a member of the school's Threat Assessment Team to conduct threat and risk assessments and create the corresponding support plans.
  • Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook, respond to emails in a timely manner and correspond regularly with families.
  • Will perform additional duties including, but not limited to supervision during non-instructional time, attending after school events and meetings, participating in enrollment activities during and leading into the Open Enrollment period.
  • Adhere to all legal and ethical requirements of the teaching profession and set an example for others to do the same.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Working knowledge of the principals, practices and ethical standards of School Social Work
  • Current knowledge of community resources and support systems available to assist students and their families
  • Skilled in problem solving and decision making as well as observation, listening, and coaching
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Possess strong time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload and multitask in a busy environment
  • Proficiency with GSuite
  • Education and Experience :

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree in Social Work preferred
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license
  • 1 year experience, preferred
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching and bending
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
