ICA Languages Services is currently seeking experienced Spanish language instructors to teach adult professionals in-person, at our facility in Arlington, VA. These positions are for several classes starting in June and July, focusing instruction on listening, reading, and speaking skills while discussing geopolitical, cultural, economic, and social issues.
ICA is a women-owned small business, providing services as a foreign language training school, in foreign language testing, and translation & interpretation, to those in service of the United States. Our mission, vision, and values guide us as we have grown and changed over the past 35 years.
Duties:
- Plan and conduct Spanish language classes using a variety of teaching techniques to develop student’s listening, reading, and speaking skills
- Adjust teaching techniques and approaches to the student’s individual learning styles and professional needs
- Administer weekly quizzes and assessments, and conduct other informal or formal evaluations of student’s learning progress
- Provide monthly written reports of the student’s progress to the supervisor and jointly develop plans to address any potential issues
- Maximize the use of instructional technology and online learning resources in teaching to promote independent learning
- Propose and participate in beyond-the-classroom cultural activities in the school and in the Washington metro area, such as visits to foreign embassies, cultural centers, restaurants, and shopping areas where native speakers live
Required Qualifications:
- Two years of full-time experience teaching adult students in an intensive setting (4-6 hrs. a day)
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
- Native speaker of the Spanish language
- Knowledge of the ILR proficiency scale
- Experience integrating instructional technology in teaching and assessment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a foreign language, linguistics, or a related field
- Experience teaching US military students to achieve required results in DLPT, FSI, and/or OPI tests, and other government-administered tests
- Experience using online platforms in teaching (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams, or Webex)
