Job Title: Group Home Manager
Location: Residential Homes

Reports to: Residential Regional Manager


Job Summary:


The Group Home Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the assigned group home(s) that provides care and support for individuals with mental, behavioral and developmental disabilities. This role involves ensuring that residents receive high-quality care in a safe, supportive, and person-centered environment. The Group Home Manager will supervise a team of direct support professionals (DSPs), ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintain communication with families, case managers, and external service providers.


The Group Home Manager plays a crucial role in fostering an environment that promotes the independence, dignity, and well-being of residents, while also managing the administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the home.

Key Responsibilities:

Resident Care and Support:

Oversee the daily care and well-being of residents, ensuring that their personal, emotional, and medical needs are met.


Develop, implement, and review Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) for each resident, ensuring that goals are aligned with person-centered planning.


Coordinate medical appointments, medication administration, and healthcare services for residents, in collaboration with healthcare providers and families.


Foster a supportive and respectful environment that encourages independence and community involvement for all residents.


Part of the staff to resident ratio, ensure consistency staff ratio for the home.


Always ensure DSP coverage for the home and step in as a backup for DSP when needed.


Staff Management and Supervision:

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), ensuring that staff are well-equipped to provide care and support to residents.

Develop staff schedules and manage staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.

Conduct regular staff meetings, provide ongoing supervision and support, and address performance issues as needed.

Offer training opportunities for staff in areas such as medication administration, crisis intervention, and person-centered planning.

Program Management:

Oversee the implementation of daily routines, activities, and programs that promote residents’ social, vocational, and life skills development.

Plan and coordinate recreational and community-based activities, ensuring that residents have opportunities to engage with the broader community.

Maintain accurate documentation for each resident, including progress notes, incident reports, medical records, and daily logs.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Ensure the group home operates in compliance with all state and federal regulations, including those set by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and Medicaid.

Conduct regular audits and reviews of documentation, medication administration records, and safety protocols to ensure compliance and quality care.

Implement health and safety protocols, including fire drills, emergency procedures, and regular safety inspections of the home.

Address any incidents, emergencies, or issues that arise in the home, reporting them to the appropriate authorities and documenting them according to organizational policies.


Family and Community Engagement:

Maintain open and regular communication with residents’ families and guardians, providing updates on their progress, activities, and any concerns.

Act as a liaison between the group home and external stakeholders, such as case managers, healthcare providers, and community organizations.

Facilitate family meetings, service plan reviews, and other discussions to ensure that families are actively involved in their loved ones’ care.


Financial and Resource Management:

Manage the group home’s budget, ensuring that financial resources are used effectively to support residents and the home’s operations.

Monitor and approve household expenses, including groceries, supplies, and utilities, in accordance with the budget.

Oversee the maintenance of the home, coordinating repairs and ensuring that the living environment is safe, clean, and comfortable for residents.


Crisis Intervention and Problem Solving:

Provide guidance and support during behavioral or medical crises, implementing crisis intervention plans when necessary.

Train staff on crisis prevention, de-escalation techniques, and proper emergency response protocols.

Ensure that incidents are handled professionally and reported according to the organization’s policies.


Professional Development and Growth:

Stay current with best practices in developmental disabilities care, group home management, and person-centered planning.

Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, such as workshops, certifications, and conferences.

Contribute to the development and improvement of the group home’s programs and services by offering new ideas and suggestions for enhancing resident care.


Timecard and approval:

Train staff in using the time clock system to submit their timecards accurately reflecting the hours worked during each pay period.

Responsible for reviewing and approving each employee’s timecard within one business day after the submission deadline to ensure timely payroll processing.

Must verify the accuracy of reported hours, ensuring they align with the program’s schedules and employee attendance.

Must check for any:

Missing or inaccurate entries (e.g., failure to log out).

Unauthorized overtime or excessive absences.

Leave requests (e.g., sick leave, vacation) that have not been documented properly.


Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field (preferred).

Master’s degree in a related field (preferred).


Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a residential setting or group home for individuals with developmental disabilities, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Experience managing staff, developing individualized service plans, and coordinating care for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Skills and Knowledge:

Strong understanding of person-centered planning and the unique needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing group homes and developmental disabilities services, including DDD and Medicaid guidelines.

Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle administrative tasks alongside resident care.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents, staff, families, and community partners.

Financial management skills, including budget oversight and resource allocation.

Proficiency in documentation, record-keeping, and compliance monitoring.


Required Certifications (Must Have):

CPR/First Aid Certification.
Prevention and Support.
Medication Administration Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Article 9.


Physical Requirements:

Ability to assist residents with physical tasks, including personal care, transfers, and mobility support, bend, run, stand for long period of time, etc.

Must be able to participate in physical activities and outings as required by the program.

Light lifting may be required to assist residents or handle household duties.


Additional Requirements (Must Have):
Background check clearance as required by state and federal regulations.

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for resident appointments and activities.

Social Security card.

Valid fingerprint card

Must be flexible with working hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call availability for emergencies.

Salary Range:

$43,888 - $45,000 annually depending on experience and location.

Working Conditions:

The Group Home Manager primarily works in the group home setting, but may also accompany residents on community outings, medical appointments, or external activities as needed.

The role typically requires a standard workweek but may involve evening, weekend, or on-call duties to address emergencies or special events.
