Reports to: Projects Manager
Purpose of Position:
The Asbestos Abatement Technician supports internal and external client needs by performing manual labor in support of asbestos abatement activities in full compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D
Successful completion of an apprenticeship preferred, not required.
Experience and Background:
- 1 year of asbestos abatement experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred.
- 1 year of ''Systems Scaffold'' erection and dismantle experience is preferred.
- 2 years of hand and power tool knowledge and experience is preferred.
- 2 years of work experience in job with physical requirements.
- Experience and knowledge of the Greater Prudhoe Bay Oilfield preferred.
- Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc.
- Conscientious with great attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, ability to speak, read and write English.
Certificates, Licenses, or other Requirements:
- Driver’s license & clean driving record required.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Card– preferred, not required
- Current Asbestos Abatement Certification through the State of Alaska, preferred
- 40-hour Asbestos Abatement Training, preferred
- Must pass a pre-hire drug test, breath alcohol test, occupational test, and respirator fit testing, computer-based testing and background check.
- Must be able to work 12 hours per day, as required.

Essential Functions:

- Ability to establish and maintain rapport and strong working relationships with co-workers and client representatives.
- Ability to relate to and work with personnel in all levels of an organization required.
- Comply with all guidelines, policies and procedures established by ICE Services while on shift, on call or attending training.
- Perform tasks that may require asbestos abatement including pipe stripping, lifting, scaffold erection, corrosion coating reconditioning, sheet metal fabrication, pipeline insulation, rigging, and new technology support.
- Promote safe work practices; follow company and client safety policies.
- Operating a variety of hand and power tools (buffer/grinders, Jig saws, drills, T-bar, rakes, shovels, etc.), carrying and lifting materials (Cribbing, chock blocks, straps, insulation, metal, etc.) for pipeline insulation removal and installation.
- Operate and/or supervise operation of vehicles to include pickups, 12-foot flatbed and box van trucks (F-550), small mobile trailers and other equipment in adverse weather and road conditions.
- Demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures and accept accountability for safe work practices.
- Ability to lift & carry 50 pounds on regular basis, routine walking, standing, bending. There is a lack of immediate access to critical medical services, as well as urban community services.
- Ability to perform job functions while using a respirator (half and full face).
- Participate in job site walk downs and TBT meetings; perform shop, field and vehicle inspections.
- Demonstrate support for the company's environmental management system.
- Maintain 100% "Safety Standards and Accountability" in all areas of mandatory/regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
