The Film Production Teacher is responsible in providing instruction in Introduction to Film Production to high school students, planning to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual students. Under the direction of the Principal of ICEF View Park Preparatory High School as well as, the Director of Arts, the Introduction to Film Teacher will create and lead weekly lessons and activities. The Teacher will demonstrate on a daily basis a genuine care about students and a sincere belief that each student’s individual talents can be developed. Outside of the regular in class days, it is highly desirable for the instructor to facilitate opportunities for students to showcase their skills, participate in contests, competitions, scholarship opportunities, regional arts programs and other outside the class events. These often take place on the weekends or after-school hours and volunteer time is highly desirable.

Salary and Benefits:

Compensation: $68,000 - $125,000

Benefits: As a full time employee of ICEF Public Schools, employees are entitled to Medical, Life Insurance, Dental and Vision plans, and 403b retirement programs as offered by ICEF Public Schools. Eligible employees will also be entitled to sick leave and vacation time in accordance with ICEF Public School policies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: The teacher is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum in Film Production based on individual students’ developmental capacities and needs. A commitment to diversity must be reflected in the curriculum developed for students. The teacher is also responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers to help integrate Introduction to Film Production with other areas of study as part of our focus on arts integration. The teacher must assess student learning on a regular basis. Teacher will submit weekly lesson plans to the school site Principal and the Director of Arts on a weekly basis. The school site Principal determines the lesson plan submission day.
  • Work with Environment and Materials: The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing and maintaining the room they have been assigned. CTE Arts Media, and Entertainment standards, lesson plans descriptions, and material related to the units covered must be displayed. The teacher is responsible for creating presenting student work at ICEF’s annual arts shows and displaying displays of film vocabulary and curriculum content in their classroom
  • Staff: An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected including participation in professional development opportunities either school provided or sought out independently. Each teacher meets in weekly staff meetings. Each teacher must also make regular professional contact with the parents/guardians of students in his/her classroom, so as to inform them of relevant matters regarding their child's student achievement that can include parent/teacher conferences.

  • Fosters a safe and nurturing learning environment

  • Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
  • Establishes an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
  • Develops and maintains lesson plans according to the Arts, Media, and Entertainment CTE Standards
  • Prepares lesson plans for substitutes
  • Builds strong relationships with students and parents
  • Communicates with parents/guardians on a weekly basis
  • Identifies student's areas for improvement and is able to work with the student and family and internal resources to suggest options for improvement
  • Provides continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided timeframes
  • Conducts both student and teacher lead parent conferences
  • Collaborates with the Special Ed Department Resource Specialist to meet the needs of all students
  • Attends and participates in all VAPA and school staff meetings, Parent/Teacher meetings, and other school-based meetings and activities
  • Performs assigned duties
  • Attends and implements professional development training throughout the school year
  • Demonstrates support and knowledge of school's goals and mission
  • Is detail oriented when tracking students' grades, attendance, and other student data
  • Works with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and the Director of Arts to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards
  • Special assignments as assigned throughout the year
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • BFA/BA in a specific Film practice (i.e. Film, TV Production, or Production, Film Theory) from an accredited college or university or BFA/BA in Arts Education from an accredited college or university Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) knowledge – preferred
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • At least two-years of related experience in the field of teaching.

Be flexible and able to adapt lesson plans to a changing student population throughout the year.

Demonstrated ability to successfully design, teach, and maintain curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plans.

  • Demonstrated skillsets in film production
  • Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education
  • Solid knowledge of subject matter, including CTE Standards
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Commitment to excellence and equity
  • Desire to teach in an urban school environment
  • Confident in managing student behavior, strong classroom management
  • Able to take direction, work as part of a team, and be a strong advocate and champion of the arts at assigned school site among parents, staff, administration, students, and community stakeholders

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

  • Clear California Teaching Credential with CSET/ CTE single subject matter authorization in Arts, Media, and Entertainment
  • EL Authorization
