Description
The Hospitalist Coder/Biller is responsible for phases of the successfully submission and collection of hospitalist reimbursement from payors and other parties.
This includes: properly registering each patient seen by a hospitalist; accurately review physician’s records and enter the appropriate charge(s) on the patient’s account; codes all diagnoses and procedures for correct billing and accurate statistical using ICD-9-CM and CPT nomenclatures; monitors and processes unbilled accounts and performs various computer-related tasks; prepare appropriate CMS 1500 billing forms for both electronic and paper claims submissions; review remittance advices and explanation of benefits for accurate reimbursement, recording payments, and secondary claims submission; reviews records for medical necessity and queries physicians when necessary; while having full access to patient health information.
Shift: M-F 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- One year or more of on the job experience in a like or similar position is, required
- Knowledge of computer and typing skills required.
- Ability to work independently and detail oriented.
- Knowledge of medical terminology; required.
- Must have a good working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance payors billing guidelines.
- Ability to handle stress in a mature and professional manner; and identify problem situations and implement actions for improvements
- Ability to lift 25 pounds, walk/sit/stand for extended periods
- Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, copier machines, facsimile machine or microfilm reader printer.
- Requires normal vision/hearing range, absence of color-blindness; and eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
