What are the responsibilities and job description for the Low Voltage Cable Technician position at ICG West Palm?
Low Voltage Cable Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing low voltage cabling systems, including network data cables, security systems, audio//video equipment, and other telecommunications infrastructure.
This role requires knowledge of cable routing, termination, troubleshooting, and compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, and test low-voltage cables, including Cat 6a, Cat6, fiber optic, coaxial, and other communication cables.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine cable routing.
- Mount and install equipment such as security cameras, access control systems, intercoms, and network racks.
- Perform cable pulling, dressing, labeling, and securing to ensure a
neat and organized installation. - Conduct troubleshooting and repairs on cabling infrastructure and network connectivity issues.
- Test cable performance using tools such as cable testers, OTDRs, and multimeters.
- Follow safety protocols and comply with local building codes, NEC, and industry standards (TIA//EIA, BICSI).
- Work independently or as part of a team on commercial and government projects.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and team members to ensure project success.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent technical certifications preferred to include: BICSI, Corning, Commscope, Panduit, Leviton.
- Recent and relevant experience in low-voltage cabling, telecommunications, or electrical work.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Ability to work in various environments, including heights, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Valid driver’s license with cleaning driving record and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BICSI certification (e.g., Installer Level 1, Level 2) or similar industry credentials.
- Experience terminating both copper and fiber optic cabling
- Experience with structured cabling, security systems, or audiovisual installations.
