Job Summary:
The Civil Construction Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with large-scale civil construction projects, such as highways, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure. This role requires in-depth knowledge of construction processes, materials, and equipment, along with strong proficiency in cost estimation software, such as HCSS Software/HeavyBid. The Estimator will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop precise estimates, ensuring projects are completed within budget while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
- Utilize HCSS Software/HeavyBid for bid preparation, cost analysis, and estimate management, ensuring that all aspects of the project are accurately captured.
- Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to assess the full scope of work and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to gather current pricing and ensure that all costs are accurately reflected in the estimate.
Bid Preparation:
- Lead the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring that estimates are thorough and competitive.
- Evaluate bid documents, specifications, and drawings to ensure all requirements are addressed in the estimate.
- Work with project managers and engineers to clarify project scope and requirements, ensuring accurate and realistic bids.
- Submit completed bids by established deadlines, presenting estimates to clients and addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with various internal departments, including project management, procurement, and field operations, to gather input for accurate cost estimation.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate pricing and scope inclusion.
- Present cost estimates and proposals to clients and stakeholders, providing clarity and addressing any potential concerns.
Risk Analysis and Cost Control:
- Identify and evaluate risks that could impact the overall cost of projects, such as material price fluctuations or scheduling delays.
- Propose alternative solutions or methods to mitigate risk and reduce costs without compromising quality.
- Monitor and track costs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure the actual expenses align with the original estimates.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of all estimates, bids, and project changes.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing cost estimates, risks, and assumptions used in the estimation process.
- Keep records of all project-related communications, approvals, and revisions to support future reference and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., AACE, PMP) are advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a civil construction estimator, with a proven track record of estimating large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Software Proficiency: Strong expertise in HCSS Software/HeavyBid for cost estimation and bid management.
- Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and cost drivers.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities for effective collaboration with clients, vendors, and team members.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and accuracy.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional site visits may be required for gathering information or verifying project details.
- The role is primarily office-based, with some travel required for client meetings or project assessments.
