Job Description : Health and Safety Manager – Heavy Industrial Environment

Position Overview :

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Manager to oversee and ensure compliance with safety standards, protocols, and regulations in a heavy industrial environment. This individual will be responsible for creating and implementing safety policies, conducting training, and fostering a culture of safety among all employees. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial safety management, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and Implement Safety Programs
  • Create and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, MSHA).
  • Develop and implement site-specific safety protocols tailored to heavy industrial operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Prepare for and manage safety audits, inspections, and certifications.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and address any compliance-related issues.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation
  • Conduct hazard assessments and risk analyses for all industrial processes and activities.
  • Identify potential risks and implement measures to mitigate them effectively.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Training and Education
  • Design and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and management.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement among all staff.
  • Ensure all personnel are trained in emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Monitoring and Reporting
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, training sessions, and compliance activities.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on safety performance and improvement initiatives to senior management.
  • Leadership and Collaboration
  • Lead the site's safety committee and facilitate communication between departments regarding safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to integrate safety into daily operations.
  • Act as a mentor and resource for all employees regarding health and safety matters.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and other relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Proven experience with hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigation.
  • Certification in a relevant safety discipline (e.g., CSP, CIH, OSHA 30 / 500) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Working Conditions :

  • Exposure to heavy industrial environments, including loud noises, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • May require occasional travel to other facilities or project sites.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to strict safety protocols.
