Responsibilities & Duties
- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
- Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
- Dismantle machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools
- Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks
- Assemble and install equipment such as shafting, conveyors and tram rails using hand and power tools
- Construct foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement and steel
- Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rulers, micrometers and plumb bobs
- Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
- Assemble machines using bolts, welds, rivets or other fastening devices using hand tools
- Operate lathe to grind, file and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications
- Repair and lubricate machines and equipment
- Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves according to weight and size of load to be moved
- Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill.
- Attached pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms using bolts and clamps
- Attach load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook
- Set up, brace and rig hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches
- Splice rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle
- May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment
- Maintain a professional appearance
- Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Minimum of 6 months experience, one year certificate from a technical school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s, ability to perform these operations using unit weight measurements and volumes.
- Ability to calculate rate, ratios and percentages
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
- Workers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
