Job Overview

The Woods Boss plays a pivotal role in delivering essential field support to youth and young adult conservation crews. This position ensures that all projects adhere to partner and NYC/ICC standards while maintaining safe, clean, and educational camp environments for participants. The role also encompasses providing specialized technical guidance for various conservation projects, including trail maintenance and invasive species removal, and liaising with project sponsors and parents to enhance participant comfort and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver training and oversight to field staff and youth crews, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Complete necessary administrative documentation, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
  • Facilitate the upkeep and repair of tools and equipment utilized by crews.
  • Guide crew leaders in conflict resolution and provide essential support during challenging situations.
  • Collaborate with crews on project activities on a weekly basis, promoting teamwork and effective project execution.
  • Organize and manage food procurement for crew activities to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Address crew dynamics and ensure that project objectives are met safely and efficiently.

  • Relevant experience in youth leadership, outdoor recreation, or environmental education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop rapport with crew members and stakeholders.

Compensation And Benefits

  • \(115 per day for Young Adult and Community crews (\)117 with current WFR or EMT certification).
  • \(125 per day for Youth Crews (\)127 with current WFR or EMT certification).
  • Provision of transportation, camping accommodations, and some meals throughout the field season.
