The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) has an exciting opportunity for a natural resource professional who wants to impact Idaho water issues.


IDWR is filling a vacancy for a GIS Analyst 2 in the Geospatial Technologies Section at our State Office in Boise. The successful candidate will participate in Geographic Information System (GIS) development and analysis projects. They will perform software development & maintenance as well as systems analysis. In addition, they will manage & analyze spatial & tabular data in support of water resource management.


The position reports to the Water Resources Supervisor (GTS) and is part of a team that assists customers with GIS technologies at all levels. The position ensures the availability and integrity of GIS data; is responsible for the collection, storage, distribution, and synchronization of GIS data between various IDWR GIS servers and platforms; conducts data queries; and operates IDWR’s ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise instances. Duties are mainly in the office, with limited fieldwork and in-state travel.


The Geospatial Technologies Section at IDWR leverages capabilities in Geographic Information Science to provide innovative, accessible, and verifiable geospatial products to support IDWR’s mission. Example of Duties

• Develop and maintain web-based mapping applications to provide a visual display of data to users

• Create map products using GIS software

• Create, organize, and maintain GIS data for internal, external, and public use

• Build and maintain GIS layers and databases, including metadata, to ensure data quality and availability

• Participate as a team member on GIS projects

• Analyzes spatial data and prepares necessary reports


Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of:

· GIS principles

· Cartographic principles

· Web and mobile GIS principles

· Conducting GIS analysis


Experience:

· Operating, applying, and programming GIS software products in a work environment


Desired Qualifications:

• Experience using and customizing the components of the Esri GIS platform such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

• Experience analyzing, filtering, and querying data using tools like ArcGIS Pro or MS SQL Server Management Studio

• Experience using programming languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, and C#

• Experience curating and documenting data in MS SQL Server as well as Esri database formats
