Job Description: Idaho Power Company (IPC) is looking for a Construction Equipment Operator I or II to join our Twin Falls Transmission and Distribution Construction crew. What does a Construction Equipment Operator I or II do for us? The Construction Equipment Operator performs assignments while operating a variety of heavy equipment/construction equipment. While on a work location, they report to the Foreman of that job, while assisting with lines work as needed and scheduled. They may perform other construction-related groundwork when equipment is not in use. A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of: Reading grade stakes, and operating crawler tractors, semi-tractors, and backhoes Hazards and safety precautions of general construction principles Familiarity of ANSI, OHSA rules and regulations An Operator II will also have knowledge of: Dig line rules Grades and elevations Function, operation, and care of commonly encountered construction equipment Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and laws pertaining to equipment, aggregate, and hazmat transportation Skills in: The basic use of personal computers Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication Ability to: Work under direct supervision and be self-directed Establish effective working relationships Work with different foremen and crews Travel and work throughout IPC service area Use good judgment and initiative in resolving work problems Maintain neat, accurate, and legible records Follow oral and written instructions An Operator II will also have the ability to: Assist and train other operators MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Operator I Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: 2 years of experience using excavators, skid steers, front end loader, dozers, line equipment (pullers, tensioners), trucks and trailers, and backhoes OR 1 year of experience using excavators, skid steers, front end loader, dozers, line equipment (pullers, tensioners), trucks and trailers, and backhoes and Formal Construction Equipment/Operator Education (i.e., Idaho Heavy Equipment Operator Training) Preferred: 3 years of experience working around overhead and underground powerlines and equipment in the utility industry OR 40 hours of crane operation experience Licenses & Certifications: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire Must be able to obtain Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicle endorsements within 120 days of hire Must obtain a First Aid/CPR card within 90 days of hire Must obtain an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Possessors’ Letter and Responsible Person card within 120 days of hire Must attend and successfully complete earliest scheduled IPC crane certification class Preferred: Certified Crane Operator (CCO) Operator II Education: High school diploma or GED Preferred: Formal Construction Equipment/Operator Education (i.e., Idaho Heavy Equipment Operator Training) Experience: 4 years of experience using excavators, skid steers, front end loader, dozers, line equipment (crane, pullers, tensioners), trucks and trailers, and backhoes Preferred: 5 years of Utility Equipment Operator experience OR 5 years of experience working around overhead and underground powerlines and equipment in the utility industry Licenses & Certifications: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire Must be able to obtain Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicle endorsements within 120 days of hire Must obtain a First Aid/CPR card within 90 days of hire Must obtain an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Possessors’ Letter and Responsible Person card within 120 days of hire Must attend and successfully complete earliest scheduled IPC crane certification class Preferred: Certified Crane Operator (CCO) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position lifts/carries up to 150 lbs. (75 lbs. in each hand) occasionally and 50-75 lbs. frequently to knuckle height. Lifting of up to 120 lbs. to shoulder height/overhead is required occasionally. Carrying is required up to 150 feet on ascents, descents, uneven, and sometimes loose terrain. Climbing of 8-foot ladders and onto/from trucks/trailers/heavy equipment is required. Drilling/packing off steep surfaces/rock faces is performed up to several times yearly while wearing safety fall restraints. Pushing up to 130 lbs. and pulling up to 110 lbs. is required occasionally. Hand tools are used and attachment of blasting caps requires good manual dexterity. Shoveling is required to place stemming into 5-gallon buckets and to dig around utilities. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation for the DOT medical certificate. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The successful candidate must complete an Employee Possessor Questionnaire form within 30 days of hire to be submitted and approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as a Possessor of Explosives. If unable to obtain the Possessor license, corrective action, up to and including termination of employment may occur.

Salary : $77,000 - $108,000
