POSITION SUMMARY:
The Valve Technician is an integral part of Idaho Milk Products’ ability to maintain our production facility. The Valve Technician performs maintenance, assessment, repair, and testing on various types of industrial valves. The Valve Technician must be flexible and respond to the growing and changing needs of the company, including but not limited to regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours due to business needs. Our technicians perform highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the plant’s business goals and objectives. This role requires you to attend CSI’s 2-year Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship program. Idaho Milk Products will cover the cost of the program with a final grade of C or better, and as long as you are employed with us.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
- Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Performs mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
- Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and adjusts equipment for proper operation.
- Completes work orders, carries preventative maintenance schedules, and installs new equipment.
- Performs minor and major repairs on plant equipment in the production facility.
- Performs skilled maintenance activities to include but not limited to construction, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing as required.
- Compliance with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
- Performs work in confined spaces.
- Performs work from aerial lifts.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of dairy processing equipment and plant facilities a plus.
- Industrial plant safety practices.
- Centrifugal pump maintenance and troubleshooting skills are a plus.
- Sound verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to regularly perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions.
- Excessive ascending and/or descending of ladders and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms on a regular basis. Body agility is emphasized.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances on a continuous basis.
- Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers on a continuous basis.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist on a regular basis.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching: Regularly bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine continuously.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Lifting: Able to lift up to 100lbs occasionally, up to 50lbs regularly.
Working Conditions:
- The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
- Subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than two hours occasionally.
- There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- Subject up to at least 92db’s.
Machinery Used:
- Drive a motor vehicle and/or heavy construction equipment.
- Use of a computer, various hand and power tools, mechanical hand tools, welders, lifts, multi-meter, amp meter, megohmmeter, drill press, grinders, saws, cutting, torches, and pipe threaders.
