What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication Welding and Design Technician position at Idaho National Laboratory?
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fabrication Welding and Design Technician to work in our REC Fabrication Services department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus with every other Friday off.
You will perform precision welding processes as a certified welder using numerous AWS and ASME welding procedures. You will report directly to the manager of the REC Fabrication Services department.
Responsibilities Include:
- Perform a wide scope of technical assignments with advanced skills as a Welder/Fabricator and a design consultant.
- Work with members of the engineering and scientific community to weld assemblies, equipment, and components, using various types of welding equipment. Collaborate directly with engineering, designers and scientific researchers to help resolve technical welding/fabrication issues.
- Read and interpret drawings and sketches proficiently, review designs with customers to help define job requirements, offer recommendations for improving product design. Resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Provide status of jobs in process to management and customers.
- Consistently and reliably operate mills, lathes, brakes, rolls, laser cutters, plasma cutters, water cutting equipment, (both manual and CNC), and other fabrication shop tools to perform close tolerance precision fabrication activities.
- Must be capable in programming, posting, and operating Mastercam or a similar CAD/CAM system to create precise work.
- Routinely assume leadership role on projects.
- Perform on the job (OJT) instruction training for qualification of other technicians. Mentor other shop staff.
- Help maintain compliance to all safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, and quality assurance requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas clean and organized.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, or equivalent, and 6 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes related work experience, vocational certification, associate's degree, or trade apprenticeship.
- Must have and demonstrate expert skills in the welding and fabrication process and be experienced in the use of the latest major fabrication shop equipment.
- Must be capable in programming, posting, and operating Mastercam or a similar CAD/CAM system to create precise work.
- Experience in welding, fabrication, machining, and quality assurance is required.
- Experience interpreting tolerances and GD&T inspection requirements is required.
Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is $35.30/hr - $58.23/hr.. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
