What are the responsibilities and job description for the MSIPP Postdoctoral Research Associate - Computational Materials position at Idaho National Laboratory?
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Computational Materials Scientist Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in our Computational Materials and Mechanics department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Collaborative Computing Center facility with every Friday off.
You will focus on the development of computational methods furthering the mission of the Department of Energy’s Environmental Management program, based on the MOOSE finite element framework ( ), including the development of machine learning surrogate models and Bayesian inference methods. You will develop models for reactive transport in porous media to predict the response of groundwater contamination to climate perturbations and the transport of groundwater plumes. You will develop thermo-chemistry models to help model the conversion of contaminants in aqueous solution and you will apply cutting edge numerical methods to enhance full field simulations of ground water flow with sparse monitoring data.
You will take part in solving complex technology issues facing the nation. Your experience will provide ample room to develop novel scientific ideas and pursue external collaborations with industry and academia.
Responsibilities Include :
- Help develop plans for new research areas and proposals
- Develop models and computational capabilities to be included in the MOOSE finite element framework
- Write and contribute to scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal publication and present research results at national and international conferences and meetings
- Provide peer review of related research internal and external to INL
- Have an interest in developing new skills to apply to complex nuclear and material science-based models
- Become an asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work both individually and as a team member
- Be proficient in scientific computing languages : C , Python, git, MacOS / Linux, and LaTeX
